free state download ??????

I have purchase turbotax deluxe 2023 plus state and when I go to download the state I am being asked to pay $40. Why? the first state download is supposed to be included with purchase of the deluxe version

You may be referring to the cost of e-filing a state return, as opposed to a free state software download. There is a fee for e-filing your state return.

Depending on the TurboTax Desktop product you purchased, you may get one free state download. That's the software that you need to create your state return. See Which TurboTax Desktop software product is right for you? for buying options.

If you have a free state download, you're welcome to print and mail your state return to avoid the e-filing fee. See the TurboTax Help article How do I print a copy of my tax return in TurboTax?? for more information.

I’m not referring to e filing.. have been using TurboTax for 30 years.. it is asking for $40 payment to download the state edition of my tax return.. have not downloaded any state yet and only need one state which is supposed to be free download

Same problem here, the $40 is just to download the state which supposed to be free, after the download you complete filling out your state taxes and ready for e-file which is another cost $29.

Why TT is charging $40 to download where it is supposed to be free.
