Forein income exclusion and/or foreign tax credit situation covered by turbotax free edition or IRS turbotax free file offers?

I believe Turbotax has 2 free filing options - Turbotax free edition and IRS Turbotx free file offer..

does any of these 2 options cover foreign earned income exclusion and/or foreign tax credit situations?

TurboTax Free Edition is intended for taxpayers with very simple returns that can fit on the new 1040 form without any schedules. Please see the TurboTax FAQ Is TurboTax Free Edition Right for Me?

The IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax is able to cover more complex tax situations. To see if you qualify, please visit the below link:

You have not answered my question completely.

1. Does IRS turbotax free file includes foreign income exclusion and foreign tax credit situation?

2. Using IRS version can she file for 2 months extension?

IRS Free File delivered by TurboTax allows you to claim Foreign Income Exclusion.  TurboTax Free Edition does not.  IRS Free File will allow you to file for an extension.

IRS Free File delivered by TurboTax allows foreign tax credit?

I checked under IRS free file ..it says extension is not allowed under IRS free file.

There are three ways to request an automatic extension of time to file a U.S. individual income tax return.

1. You can pay all or part of your estimated income tax due and indicate that the payment is for an extension using Direct Pay, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or using a credit or debit card. . For more information, go to www.irs.gov/Payments.

2. You can file Form 4868 electronically by accessing IRS e-file using your tax software or by using a tax professional who uses e-file.

3. You can file a paper Form 4868 and enclose payment of your estimate of tax due (optional)

Extension is not supported by the IRS Free File program, unfortunately.  You may download the form from the IRS website free.  Click here:  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf

You may return to TurboTax program to file extension.  Here are the steps:

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box , type in extension and Enter
  • Select Jump to extension
  • Follow prompts

Generally, the due date for filing your income taxes is April 15.  If you request and are granted an extension, you typically have until October 15 to file you tax return.

  • These extensions automatically extend your state income tax deadline as well in some states.
  • Other states, like New York, require a separate extension request.

Here is a TurboTax article that explains how to file for an extension.  It's done on form 4868.  If you're unable to e-file it, then you can mail it in.  Be sure to check your state Department of Revenue website as well, if you go the mailing route, so you can extend your state tax return as well if your state requires one.

Well that is what I had been repeating like 3 times - I have followed the link and instruction to file it using IRS free file powered by turbotax  but it shows message that 'Sorry, Easy Extension is not supported in IRS Free File Program powered by TurboTax'

Earlier on this thread someone said use IRS free file powered by turbotax so I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong?
