How early can I efile with turbotax? It saids January 5th? But it’s not allowing me to file, so does turbo tax go by a different time zone ?

what happens is Turbotax will allow you to submit your return for e-filing before e-filing actually opens. it just sits on its servers. The IRS says January 24th.

Thanks, but I was asking when does turbotax actually start letting you E-File. Is there a time-zone they follow. Because it saids January 5th but when you go to efile it’s still telling you to wait til January 5th

Well...it's still 5 January until Midnight, but perhaps they found some "issue" with their filing system.

Try again tommorrow.

BUT  We cant't say this often enough

DO NOT FILE UNTIL THE END OF JANUARY (at the earliest)!!!!   (and Mid Feb to March is safer)

You will not get a refund before folks who wait until then (IRS file pulls are fairly random & not FIFO)

AND...if you forgot to put something in your tax file or need to correct it, YOU CANNOT get it back to correct it unless the IRS rejects your filing at the end of the month.

You've been warned

Mine says the same come back January 5th and it's the 5th and still won't allow me to file. If turbotax takes my return today will I be issued my advance?

The IRS has not even announced yet when they will begin to accept 2022 e-files.  E-filing has not opened with them yet.  They will probably start accepting/rejecting e-files by the end of January.  If TurboTax lets you start e-filing earlier than that----and they probably will as a marketing ploy----then your return will just sit on a server waiting for the IRS.  While it is in pending on that server, you will have no ability or power to fix or change anything if you suddenly realize you have left out something or made a mistake.

Employers have until the end of January to send W-2's, there are over a dozen kinds of 1099's that can still arrive in your mail in January and February....etc, etc. etc.  Many federal and state forms are not yet available, so if you file too soon you may be messing up.   When you rush to file too soon you risk making mistakes that will put your return under review or that will require you to amend later.  Those situations can take months to sort out.  And...if you are in a hurry because you are getting child tax credit or earned income credit, the IRS will hold your refund until mid-February because of the PATH act.   Every year we see people who rush to file and live to regret their haste.

First the date of 1/5 is NOT written in stone and it subject to change so patience is needed.  AND the 5th is not yet over  and remember Intuit is a WEST coast business.  Check again after 8pm or better yet come back tomorrow.  Filing today is not required at all ... waiting until the IRS efiling actually opens later this month is the smart move.
