I bought the desktop version of TurboTax deluxe as I have always and got to the end with no schedule C questions. You CANNOT complete a schedule C form and had to upgrade to Home and business for $120 after paying for the Deluxe version. I am not amused!
Are you self-employed? A Schedule C is needed to record profits and losses earned by you. This form is covered under TurboTax Self-Employed (if you're using the Online version) or TurboTax Home & Business (for the CD/Download software).
Are you saying you had no Schedule C but still needed to upgrade? If you believe you're owed a refund, see if you qualify here: How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?
@carsons97487 Are you sure you were using the desktop Deluxe? Desktop Deluxe definitely can prepare a Schedule C, but online Deluxe cannot.
We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end. You need to use the desktop software. One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar. Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen. Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.
if you started out in online Deluxe and then ended up switching to desktop Home and Business, you should try to sort out your billing confusion with customer support.
No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

@xmasbaby0 I am thinking of getting the download version of the Deluxe from Target. Your saying this one will allow me to enter income and expenses for a schedule C?
@Lily251 Yes---every version of the CD/download has all of the forms and schedules so you can use Deluxe or higher. Desktop Deluxe will be able to prepare a Schedule C if you have self-employment income and business expenses.
@carsons97487I am using the desktop Turbotax Deluxe and I had to go to Forms in the toolbar and then selected Schedule C for the questions. Hope this helps.
In the desktop version of TurboTax Deluxe, you can get to Schedule C from Forms mode or you can use Step by Step mode. You can enter both business income and expenses in the desktop version, but not Online. Online will prompt for an upgrade once you attempt to enter expenses. Home Office expenses for the self-employed are entered with the Schedule C information.
In the Desktop program, click on Federal Taxes, then Wages and Income, then scroll down to Business Items and click Start next to Business Income and Expenses (Sch C).
OK, so is this here is definitive? Deluxe (desktop) has schedule C income AND expenses?
I have buying Home/Business for years because I thought I needed it for schedule C. So I can use Deluxe instead?
Does Deluxe include schedule D and the ability to import investments etc. from the financial institutions?
Thank you
All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions. So yes you can buy a lower version.
