If you received your last check in January 2021, you should receive a 2021 form W-2 from your employer, even if the work was done in December 2020.
Please check your payslip. If the payroll date is in 2021, you should get a 2021 form W-2.
You might have to ask that employer if your Jan check was included on the 2020 W2. Or if they are sending a W2 or 1099 for 2021. Did they take any taxes out of the check?
Thanks. I did contact them and yes it shows a very small check for less than $1000. My next question is does this mean I will have to file MO state taxes too because of this small check? I did not work 2021 in MO but this check is for a MO job so wondering if it means I still file like I did work in MO just for this check purpose. Just wondering?
It depends, if you are a non resident of MO, are required to file a federal return and earned more than $600 then, yes, you would be required to file a tax return. Since you earned the money in MO and were paid for it in 2021, you would need to file for that amount if you are a non resident.
If you a resident of MO, and had no other income, then no you would not have to file as MO residents do not need to file if their income is less than $1,200.
