DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

My 2023 Turbotax CD, which supposedly has "nothing on it but a link to Turbotax. com" actually has 479 mb of data  on it.  Wow, thats a lot of data for a disk thats only purpose is to provide a link to Turbotax.com to download the tax program. Wonder if there could be additional support programs or updates required by some users' computers that is not already on their computer, (or maybe a basic version of the program itself)? Please explain.

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

Ah, see, Turbotax said CD's would no longer be available, but now I have been sent a link,  https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/   where Turbotax will sell me a disk for $10 extra after I have bought an authorized version of the program.

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

Also consider the hundreds of thousands of people who are still on dial up internet and millions who are happy to get 5 mbps download speeds out of their systems. Turbotax has basically shot these people the bird and said who gives a crap about those "hillbillies" and the fact that they'll have to spend days downloading the entire program instead of installing it off a disc in 10 minutes and then only spending a few hours or a day to update. (Most of you probably never experienced the horrors of using dial-up internet).  They could probably file a class action lawsuit against all the tax software providers for discrimination against people who don't have access to decent internet. But the good news:  Turbotax has sent me a link where I can buy a genuine Turbotax disk for an extra $10 after buying a copy of the download version! https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/    I may have to buy one just to see if it is actually a base copy of the program or just a link to Turbotax.

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

I am one of those "hillbilly" people who survived rather well on 3mb and before then, 115kb ISDN. Sure it was annoying, but I have other things I can do while downloading such as reading a book, whatever. If you are running on a laptop, head to a coffee shop or library to use their faster connection.

It's way past time to put this topic to rest. No one is forced to use TT, use another product, and get on with life.

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

Interesting. I believe most (all?) of the people asking questions here are interested in non-sarcastic answers and information regarding TT’s latest software decision. I’m sorry you were at a “tech or streaming” disadvantage at some point in life. However it’s more helpful to focus on constructive comments as opposed to your personal history. Thanks, on behalf of all other customers as well. 😊

Rush (the band); "He knows changes aren't permanent; but change is." The question to Intuit is do we like this change?

I woke up this morning and went to amazon. Like years past I wanted to order my  CD. Like many here I could not find it except in downloadable form. I get that it's the same, but now I have to jump through too many hoops. Can't just load and go. Now I need an Intuit account, great. Another user ID, another password. You see, not all of us use the cloud, not all of us have our computers remember passwords and user Id's. We don't all have data on our phone. We don't need GPS to get to grandma's house. We still use an atlas when going on a long trip. We don't need a contacts list to find a phone number we've been calling for years. Like many of you, I looked for another program that still had a cd but couldn't find one. Then I thought, maybe I'll just do them the old fashioned way. Download the forms, send them by mail. Then I thought, maybe I'll just pay someone to do it. How would Intuit like that? Fact is, I like doing my taxes. I liked getting a turbo tax CD. Now what? So I read 20 pages of Intuit Community today, and now I'm writing this.

@VolvoGirl Who states “You'll get used to it. It will be ok.”

Like pumping my own gas? Like paying for air in my tires? Like self checking out and bagging my own groceries? Sounds like corporate talk to me. You must work there.

Oh, I see, I can pay extra for a CD, if I want millions of them to go to landfills? @taxlady28

I already pay extra to have my milk in a glass bottle,of course they give me my money back when I return the bottle. Same with bottles of Soda; I pay more, but they can be recycled. I don't like plastic. I just quit buying Nathan's pickles (even though I like them) because they just started using a plastic jar. Now I buy Claussen in a glass jar. When THEY took my Pepsi and put it in plastic. When THEY decided on plastic every thing, and then wonder why microplastics are harming animals and fish. You have to first know who the THEY are. THEY are the ones who told you, “You'll get used to it.It will be ok.”.

As for the TT CD, my local trash takes the cardboard cover and the plastic cover in my recyclables. And GreenDisk services (https://www.greendisk.com) recycles Cd's..... Of course a person has to want to do it. While we know that only about 9% of plastics even get recycled... At least I tried. Recycling, another THEY thing.

@vonpadraig “I do not understand why you have ANY difficulties importing using the DOWLOAD version.”............ It's called compassion/empathy especially for the elderly. @distoff

@xmasbaby0 who states “@dlstoff You really should read more of this thread. We have put the information here multiple times.”.... Let me understand this. Instead of buying a disk from amazon you want me to download. Then, I have to make an intuit account. The account then asks for my phone number instead of just giving me a conformation through my email which was the first box. Now, if I wander around in there (or go through pages and try to find the right hyperlink) maybe I can get my licensed code.... This is like pounding sand compared to just having a disk from the store.

So, here is my answer to Intuit. I protest. You should still make both, I don't even care if you charge more. I will download this year. But I prefer the disk myself, and would hope that you see how many people do as well. Also, I find it appalling that you need my phone number to text me a conformation, and can't just do it through the email. It certainly lacks privacy, something we barely have anymore thanks to THEY. What about people who don't get text messages?

I live on another planet. The past few years, I've been required to login to Intuit to register my software before I've been able to use it. So has my sister who has always bought the CD version.

So, I guess you got lucky the past few years that you magically got past Intuit's licensing requirements to have an account the past few years? Congratulations.

Now, all that said, I get it, people are upset.
And we have said, REPEATEDLY, download version of desktop and CD are the same.

Contrary to what people have said, despite the 400MB of software on the CD, it ALWAYS initiated a full download anyway to do a full update. I've talked to a friend who worked in Intuit development.

AND, we have said repeatedly, you CAN purchase a CD.

Now, to the issue of CDs. Transferring to another person. Ah hah! gotcha, the download is locked to an account and you will find that with the CD. Why do software companies do that? Pirating, pure and simple.
I've noticed countless times professionals on here irate because they can't get their software from their customer. Well boohoo to the professional, go out and buy a copy, that is your responsibility as a professional. To the end user who wants to share? I feel the pain.

To the ones who have loudly professed they are unable to install previous versions of the downloads. I did a test a couple of weeks ago and SUCCESSFULLY installed 2016 to 2023. I SUCCESSFULLY opened those tax year files. AND, I SUCCESSFULLY created new files and imported information from the previous years (2015-2022) just to prove nothing was broken.

I hear a lot of belly aching. And yet, Intuit HAS provided the solution. But nobody wants to read the threads. Buy the CD after you have purchased the download and VALIDATED your purchase.

HINT, purchase from Costco or Amazon and you will probably pay less than on Intuit's site. I usually do.

Have  used the CD for about nine (9) years.   I want the CD !!

to be available.   Don't make using your product more difficult.

Keep it simple or risk losing a lot of folks.

Purchase one of the 2024 desktop download editions and you will receive a license code.

With the license code you can purchase the CD for an additional $10 on this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

I am going to play devil's advocate. It is cheaper to software companies to sell download only than to produce boxes and CDs and all that go into transportation of those items. Why should I, a person content with downloaded version, be forced to pay the same price as you who demands a CD? Why shouldn't you be forced to pay more if you want a CD?
Intuit is NOT taking away your privilege to have a CD. You can pay MORE for the privilege of having a CD. Seems fair to me.

True, I agree and see your point. That said, why aren’t you or others asking, where’s my price break now that Intuit doesn’t have to procure, copy and ship these disks? That’s millions $ in savings for Intuit.   I’m only asking questions that many others want answers for as well. I like to get my taxes completed ASAP so already purchased my “diskless” Deluxe + state 2024 program. Heads up for those interested, I purchased it at Costco on1/23/25 for $44.00 👍

Costco and Sams both currently have that same price.  Plus...you also get a $10 in-product credit that can be applied to the state efile fee, another state program, or other add-on, if applicable.  The Sams website says their sale offer ends 2/07/25.   Costco's website shows its sale price ends on 1/26/25, unless they decide to extend it.

Why not let your customers choose....I'm definitely willing to pay extra for the disc.  Have used the email download, years ago, while traveling.   Could not get through to Turbo Tax with all the issues of my unsuccessful download.  So I purchased the cd version....worked well.

Please continue with the CD.

DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

Great point! Without a voice in the matter, I reluctantly purchased the 2024 (non-disk) download option. After downloading and opening the program everything looked normal. However, I then went to open my previous 2023 program in background for reference (as I’ve done for over 15 years), I was disappointed to get an error message. So I tried to open it again, same error message. I then tried to open 2022, 2021, etc,  Same error note. (Apparently no work around unless you print out your necessary documents?). So it appears you cant open multiple year programs simultaneously.  So not only did Intuit go out of their way to disappoint long term loyal customers, in addition to pocketing Millions $ by removing their disks, they’ve also have forced us to use more physical paper while overlooking a beneficial tool/option for their customers. Intuit team, please correct me if I’m wrong or if there is a “secret” password or workaround for this major issue.
