I NEVER said I purchased a CD version for 2024.
PLEASE AGAIN LISTEN CAREFULLY! The CD version has ONLY been a downloader app for many years. In other words, people who received a CD were coddled into believing
@ VolvoGirl
thank you so much for the link to the cd add-on purchase !
@re: DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

To get the CD from TurboTax you would have to first purchase the download edition and get the License code - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/
Once you have the license code you can purchase the CD for $10 - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

Ok...so if I have a client, who buys the download version, how can she transfer the software to me?

The software license for the TurboTax desktop editions requires that the software can only be installed on up to 5 computers personally owed by the purchaser of the software.
There is no company that sells income tax preparation software on a CD. They all require a download. You can buy a TurboTax CD for an additional $10.
I want a CD this is a stupid decision by Intuit. They can go F...ck themselves.
Once you purchase the download and have the license code you can purchase the CD for $10.
Go to this website for the CD after you have the license code - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/
All the other tax preparation software providers have also discontinued providing CD's for their software.
So Intuit also added insult to injury by raising their software prices (for no cost download process?) while charging customers $10 extra for a disc? Sounds like a pure money grab for Intuit. Perhaps they should focus on how to make internal costs more efficient (ie no more discs? 🤨) as opposed to passing their ineffective business costs and practices on to future ex customers. Just a thought folks. 😊
I had a college calculus professor who wrote on the chalkboard with his right hand and erased with his left. At the end of semester he was troubled and puzzled by the fact that all but 3 students in his class were failing. I guess you lofty, techy people who say over and over "it's the same, it's the same, it's the same" can't relate to us poor dumb people on the ground. I've installed Turbotax with a CD for 31 years and never had a problem. I tried for an hour last year, to help my girlfriend complete her taxes on the TT downloaded "free" version and it wouldn't accept it. I copied the same information into my desktop (CD installed) version and it went thru immediately? Why? it's the same isn't it? I've read like fifty one-star ratings on Amazon about the new diskless TT version and the #1 problem seems to be the emailed activation code won't work for the download and Amazon won't refund their money. Neither Amazon nor Turbotax customer service can or will help. #2 The activation code works but the download stalls with "Oops, something went wrong". Why? If the disk download and the internet download are the same why does one work flawlessly year after year and the other stalled this year for a number of different people? #3 This years' downloaded version won't allow them to do preliminary tax estimates like the previous CD versions would. Something is not the same there either! TT customer service can't or won't help. (Maybe they need to update their CC+ whatever that is. Why didn't they have to do that on the CD version?) Just like when I had to upgrade to Premier to do the exact same thing that Basic used to do: Turbotax is always happy to screw their customers Obviously the real reason Intuit is no longer providing CD's is not only the dollar they save on a CD it's the $20 they can make by cutting out the discount sellers whose versions don't seem to work. If it makes life difficuot for 100,000 of their formerly loyal customers, who cares. Maybe the final versions are the same, but it would appear that getting it on your computer is not the same. What a wonderful opportunity for some insightful, customer friendly little company to provide a tax program on a cd or a (usb thumbdrive).
@Plasma_star_9 I couldn't read all of that because it was running together and needed some breaks. But what she used was the ONLINE browser version not the Desktop installed program. The Desktop program does not have a "free" version. You have to buy it and install it on a full windows or mac computer.
People are getting confused with the Online browser version and the Desktop installed program. The Download program is not the Online version. The Download program is EXACTLY the same Desktop program as the CD. You buy it the same way directly from Turbo Tax or in stores like Costco. When you installed the CD you still had to go online to update it. It's only the method you use to install it. Even when I bought the CD I used the download method to install it.
Very simple. You are confusing the FREE download version with the PAID version.
Those of us who repeatedly say the download version is the SAME as the CD version are CONSISTENLTY referring to the PAID DESKTOP version.
Re: Price, Installations
I paid Amazon 39.99 for 2018 TT Deluxe. This year I paid Amazon 44.95 for 2024 TT Deluxe. About 2%/yr increase in price over six years or what the Fed says is their target inflation rate.
I've been using TT since the 3.5" diskette days. IMO it provides good value. Other people have a different opinion. There are other options out there.
As for downloading speeds, IIRC we had 3mbs download service in 2019 which arrived via a radio tower about 9 miles away (which BTW burned down in 2020 during the CZU fire). I just pressed install/update and went off to do other things.
If you've purchased your 2024 software license code and want a CD for installation, you can purchase one here.
