2020 turbotax Premier CD and Online Version Discrepancies

I started my taxes using the 2020 CD Premier version and due to issues with the 3922 form under the ESPP section, I decided to use turbotax online version.  As of March 6, the CD version is up to date. 

I have completed the 2020 taxes on the CD version as well as on the online version and there is a huge discrepancy.  The CD version states that I have a payment due on my Federal Tax and a refund on my State.  The online version states that I get refunds for both Federal and State.   The State refunds between the CD and online version do not match. 

I have redone the taxes at least 5 times in both CD and online version and I cannot figure out why I am getting this discrepancy.  I called turbotax last week and I was on the phone for a few hours and I was not able to get much help.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you normally use the download version than it was carried over from the previously filed return and itemized the state refund. If you just input information into TurboTax Online for the first time, the program doesn't know that you itemized ect.

If you already started your 2020 return in TurboTax Online, transferring will clear any info you have already entered. Please keep in mind, a .tax file from a previous year won't transfer if the file is password protected.

Here's how to transfer:

You have to use TurboTax Online on your computer to do this transfer (it won't work from a mobile device/mobile web, or in the mobile app).

1. Sign in to TurboTax Online and start a new return, or open or continue a return you already started.

2. After the screen has loaded, select the Tax Tools drop-down menu in the left menu and then select Tools.

3. In the pop-up window, select the Transfer last year's TurboTax return from your computer link. (If you don’t see this option, you may need to clear and start over.)

Follow the instructions to finish transferring your file.

Hi Cass0317, before starting the online version, I transferred the 2019 Turbotax file from desktop and then I entered the data for 2020. Both the online and desktop were baseline using the 2019 Turbotax file.
