I submitted state and federal taxes electronically on the same day. Federal tax return was accepted same day. State tax returns had to wait more than a month due to a state-wide delay in accepting returns. When I filed, I remember all of my information for refunds and payments presented so that payments would go through automatically. Once my state allowed returns, my tax returns were accepted. This was 5 months ago. I thought everything was fine until I received a letter in the mail today from the Department of Revenue stating that I have not paid my state taxes yet, and I now have late fees plus interest on my taxes. Did I do something wrong? Is TurboTax at fault? Why am I just now finding out that TurboTax did not connect my payment options to my state? I am upset that I have an outstanding tax balance, and this had never happened to me in the past. Should I just go ahead and pay my balance? This is frustrating, and this feels a bit unfair.
****UPDATE*****
Thanks for the answers. After looking over my returns, I realized that I did not give an option to have money withdrawn from my account to pay my state taxes. I cannot remember if I had the option to do so and opted out, or if the option was not available at the time due to the state's delay in accepting returns or just not available through TurboTax. My fault for not keeping up with my returns. Now I wish I would have set a reminder for myself to keep track of my payment. Thanks again y'all.

How did you choose to pay the state taxes owed? Do you have proof of payment such as a canceled check or a debit from your bank account or credit card account?
How you chose to pay the state taxes owed will be on the State Filing Instructions for your state tax return.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2021 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.

Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the state for the state to take it out of your account. But most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay.
And double check your bank account and routing number with your bank.
Thank you for the response. This was my fault, and I over looked some details.
Thank you for this response. I followed these directions to take a good look at my return. This was my fault for over looking the fact that I may not have been able to do an online debit payment for my state through Turbo.
You didn't notice that the money didn't came out of your bank account for 5 months?
