My eldest was born in mid December and I remember claiming him at the time. Although I have given up on the free sights because it hasn't been giving me my child tax credit or anything, now I have to wait for the place yo open back up with people to help you file.
A child born in December is deemed to have lived with you the whole year so choose that for the months lived with you.
It should have been 2200 for 1 person plus 2bkids for married plus 2 would be 3400 but people's payments have been going to incorrect bank accounts I would find out cus you might have to pay that back. Like the fireman who got 8 million in his
Yes, I understand this is the only place you can find this. I have googled for two days. In fact, I landed here when there were only 3 comments and it has been growing by the minute. Look through the comments and you will see that people are blaming Turbo Tax and Yelling in all caps like it's their fault because this is where they filed their taxes
Look through the comments. I have seen several people blaming and yelling at Turbo Tax
Neither I nor my ex-wife got the $500 for our son I figured if it wasn't on mine it would be on hers because we alternate claims every other year. How do I correct this so getthe amounts paid out one way or the other.
Same ! They missed a child. What do we do now ?
we got 2900 instead of 3400, filed married 2 kids, made under 50,000
This has happened to several people and the IRS has not indicated where or how to report this.
I do know that the stimulus payments will all be reconciled when you file your 2020 return (in 2021) and if you were not paid the correct amount you will receive it then. I know that doesn't help you today, but I'm not sure the IRS will issue corrections before then. Several have indicated their payment amount seems to correspond with the children claimed on the 2018 return, not 2019. Again, we are not aware of how the IRS is determining which return to go by. We thought it would be 2019 if that had already been filed, but reality is showing us this is not always the case.

75% of the issue here is not whether your kids are listed as dependents. Mine are listed as dependents, technically, as well. The main area to check on your tax return is page 1, in the Dependents section, to see of the Child Tax Credit box is checked off. If it is NOT checked off, then this is probably the reason you didn't get the extra $500. And even further bet that the Other dependents box is checked off instead.
I'm sure there could be other reasons you didn't receive the $500 but I believe this covers a large majority of the reasons.
In the case of the Child Tax Credit situation, there's a strong argument that due to TT awkwardly worded question on how long your child lived with you in 2019, it caused the problem of people selecting an option other than they lived with you the whole year resulting in the Other dependent box being checked rather than the Child Tax Credit box being checked. IRS was looking for the latter.
Hi Catina, could you comment on my post that I believe that most of the issues here stem from page 1 of the return, and due to the questions asked about how long the child lived with you in 2019, it directed people to possibly select the wrong answer due to the language awkwardly phrased, thus having them claim their child as Other dependent instead of the Child Tax Credit. ITS was looking for the latter and if it noted a child was an other dependent they would not receive the $500 for that child.
My check was $500 short. I have not filed 2019 so they went based on 2018. There was a mistake in my original tax form where I had a social security number wrong for one of the children so they went back and corrected it after the it was processed originally. How do we contact IRS to have the $500 additional reissued? This has me in a bad situation because we were counting on that extra $500 to get through the month.
Nothing to do with TT. others filed through accountants and same thing happened.
The other dependent vs the child tax credit is very simple and is dependent on age. A child or other dependent age 17 or older will ALWAYS be an other dependent. Only a child 16 and under that meet the other qualifications will have the Child Tax Credit box checked.
