We can’t see your return and TurboTax has no knowledge about your return once it is filed. Read the IRS letter carefully to learn why the adjustment was made.
How can I get help to figure out what's going on? I was waiting an hour for a phone call back, and finally the robot gave me a phone number to call, and I got a text message. I want to figure out what happened and what, if anything I can do to resolve this void.
@lauralud36 - it's the Recovery Rebate. Look at Line 30. is there $4200 on that line?
you were eligible for either the 3rd stimulus or the Recovery Rebate Credit, but not both.
THe IRS records indicate you received the 3rd stimulus, so they denied the Recovery Rebate. In effect, the IRS is saying that Line 30 of Form 1040 should be zero.
did you receive the 3rd Stimulus. Check your bank account records from March - May, 2021. If there is a $4200 deposit, then Line 30 should have been zero.
let us know what you find!
if you don't understand what the IRS changed you can try. there may be a fee.

4,200 is the 3rd Stimulus payment. It was 1400 for each person. So Married with 1 dependent would be 1400x3=4,200. Did you already get the Stimulus payment they sent out last year starting March 2021? The IRS has records that show you were sent the 3rd stimulus payment so they removed the 4,200 Recovery Rebate Credit.
Do you have an amount on 1040 line 30? You might have tried to claim it again. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
Did you get IRS letter 6475 saying what they sent you? If you are married you should each get letter 6475 for half.
Double check your bank statements and check your IRS account to see what they sent you. Check both IRS accounts if married.

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

Hi, thanks for that response, How would I know if we received the stimulus or credit? (my brain is so full these days)
it could be you claimed a recovery rebate credit of $4,200 when the IRS records showed you already got it. the amount you claimed would show up on line 30 of the 1040. .
@lauralud36 - look in your bank account records from March - May, 2021. do you see $4200?
"How would I know if we received the stimulus or credit? (my brain is so full these days)"
LOTS of people have made mistakes this year with the recovery rebate credit by "forgetting" that they received the $1400 per person stimulus checks last year. They answered no to the questions for the recovery recovery rebate credit and put the $1400 per person on line 30 of their returns. But you cannot get it twice, so the IRS removes it when it is there by mistake. The IRS sent letter 6475 showing that you received the 3rd stimulus check.
It is very important that if you filed a joint return—-the IRS sent letter 6475 to EACH spouse. You had to enter the total amount received. Many people misunderstood and entered only the amount from one of the letters.
Look at your bank statements to see the deposits made during March or beyond in 2021---Do you see $4200 going in to your account?
Or.....
Check your IRS account---does the IRS say they sent you a payment that you did not receive? (If you filed a joint return you need to check for both spouses.) If so you can ask for a trace to be put on the payment.

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.

Go to this IRS website for your tax account to see if the 3rd stimulus payment is entered - https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you are Married Filing Jointly also check your spouse's tax account.

If you have a brokerage account, check that too.
The IRS uses whatever account you may have had a prior year's tax refund deposited into.
And....if a check was issued instead, and you moved residences since the prior year's tax filing, a check might have been sent to that other address.........that might take more interactions with the IRS to resolve if it wasn't forwarded to you, or returned to the IRS...or fraudulently cashed by whoever lives there now.
