Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

My 2022 completed TurboTax forms are no longer available.

A week ago, I filed my 22 Fed and State electronically with turbotax and now I can not open my 2022 taxes and forms by clicking on the short cut that always worked before. Both filings were excepted by the IRS and VA state. When I click on the Turbotax shortcut on my desktop, it does not bring up my completed 2022 taxes; but wants me to “Begin” again or “Continue From Tubro Tax Online”. What’s happen to my original filings?

Sounds like you used the Desktop CD/Download program?  Windows or Mac?  Your return is not online.  Did you try going up to File - Open?

Your tax return file ends in .tax2022.    Search your computer for it.  Check the Recycle Bin or Trash.  Check in One Drive, etc.  it should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder.  Check your backups.  Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2022 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.

Don't know if this will help any Turbo Tax users but one Quicken user found them......

What I found was that my Quicken Data files ended up in the One-drive Recycle bin. Not sure how, but I found them there.  I placed the files back onto the laptop and brought the files into Quicken and now have all my data back.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like  "~your name.tax2021".  That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.

My 2022 completed TurboTax forms are no longer available.

Typically when this happens, the user (you) has more than one TurboTax account and doesn't realize it.  In order to access the return you recently filed, you must use the same TurboTax account (same username and password) that was used when filing the return.  Maybe you have multiple accounts?

Use the method I'm linking below to see how many TurboTax accounts you have.  Please post back if you continue to have difficulty.

How many TurboTax accounts do I have?

Once you've located your return, you can follow these instructions to view or print a PDF of you return(s).

How do I save my 2022 return as a PDF?

NO SUCCESS

1. I clicked on your link:How many TurboTax accounts do I have?
2.On the link page ( How can I view all my TurboTax accounts?), I clicked on: Go to our Let's get you signed in page
3. I followed the instruction listed:
A. Enter your email address, phone number, or user ID (already had my ID listed)
B. We'll send a code to either your email address or your phone. Enter the code we've sent you.
I did this and was taken to another page where it requested me to change my password. I changed my password and this lead me to another page that didn’t seem right so I discontinued to try and start all over.
4. I now had problems on getting to the link page. I rebooted my computer and refreshed my browser each time I tried to access the link but this is what was happening each time. (AT NO TIME WAS I LEAD TO MY ACCOUNTS) to show me:
“a list of your accounts. Select the one you want to sign in to”
5. Here what is happening now:
A. I clicked on your link: How many TurboTax accounts do I have?
B. On the link page I clicked on: Go to our Let's get you signed in page.
C. It didn’t work; it took me to a different page for some reason: “Welcome to TurboTax! Here’s what to expect:
The link is now treating me like a new customer and following this page is of no help. Remember each time I tried your initial link; I rebooted my computer and refreshed my browser- FireFox.

So now I’m more confused then ever. I can still access my account with all the information about me, but other wise I completely loss in getting to my tax files.

Someone told me that after I file my taxes using the TurboTax to file and the tax filing is accepted by IRS, that I will no longer be able to access my tax files until the IRS does something else (reviews it, sends a refund - I’m not getting a refund, or maybe charges my credit card for the amount due witch I set to April10.)? Could this be the problem? Doesn't make sense to me.

Your help worked. The file was in my Documents folder and clicking on it loaded Tubrotax 2022 and my completed taxes were now available. I'm using desktop with W 10 and the downloaded program. For some reason the 2022 Turbotax short cut on my desktop went bad and apparently could not find the file. It had worked fine since installation a month ago. I had open a 2021 edition, but sure the 2022 edition worked after that. Once I opened the Turbotax 2022 edition by clicking on the file in my Documents folder, the desktop Turbotax shortcut is now working. I didn't think to check the shortcut path when it wasn't working - but I still might not recognize the problem of the shortcut not pointing to  to the correct file.

Great job trouble shuting and thank you very much. Best regards,

Ted W
