Carryover is the main gripe. If one claims a carryover credit, it appears that the program is not up to date, and will require paper filing.
Yes, paper is the only route. It's crazy that I waited a month for the 1116 to come out and now have to file paper anyway. Might as well just print the 1116B from the IRS website and file the handwritten form. TurboTax is one of the worst customer experiences I've had in a while.
I just gt the most recent update this AM - When I run the Federal Tax Review, TurboTax still tells me that IRS form 1116 is still unavailable. When I go to the TurboTax forms available, it shows Form 1116 as available. What can I do to resolve this problem?
Using Per Fed Ind 1040 Formset 2021.12035 3/3/22, 10:20 AM
Seriously????? I can't file until near the deadline because I have a $28 foreign tax carryover... This is madness.
Hi @Chas56
@You asked what you could do to resolve the problem.
Contacting the relevant chief executive at the parent company certainly would not hurt. Last night, here, with great difficulty
(Intuit kept auto-editing out the email addresses and phone number), I posted the email address of both the said individual and his office, as well as his “alleged direct line” phone number. The information I posted came from a Turbotax Form 1116 SchB discussion on Bogleheads.org

Well I installed the update on 3/3/22. Supposed to include 1116, says it does, but it doesn't. FIX IT.

Click on Forms. When in Forms mode click on Open Form. Enter 1116. Select Form 1116 and click on Open Form. Select any name for the form and click on Open Form
To enter Foreign taxes paid -
Or enter foreign taxes in the Search box located in the upper right of the online program screen. Click on Jump to foreign taxes
This situation reminds me of Putin's war: lie, change story, take/destroy everything.
I had to delete Form 1116 (leaving for an amended return) and then file my return electronically (I wonder how long it will be in pending status this time).
Some of us need refunds ASAP. Filing a return by paper could take years to get a refund. Who cares if I know the refund amount - I needed to FILE. Intuit kept changing dates of the Form 1116 availability from early Feb to March and to top it off, they then failed to make the part B available (late March, paper file only) as a major surprise finale. Totally corrupt company. Bait-and-switch ++++. Corporate greed +++++++++.
Last year they screwed everyone in Feb, who filed early with a prolonged pending status (because of a software math error on their end) plus the Unemployment Tax refund didn't get corrected like it should have been, meaning another year to get the refund.
Horrible company. Switching to H&R Block. Abolish the IRS.
TT now says 1116 not available until 3/31. Driving me crazy.
It's 10:15 MST on 3-3-22 and I have updated TT. Using the Step-by-step method I still get the "Tax Forms to Revisit" message that TT needs to work on Form 1116 (Available 0). The foreign tax credit amount does show up on Schedule 3 (and thus on the 1040 also), and Form 1116 states "Form not required to be filed" at the top. I have no carryover.
Would someone at Intuit please advise if it's okay for me to simply ignore the "revisit" request.
Not true
As of 3/3 at noon TT web site still says 3/3 for desktop version as it has been for the past few weeks. The on line versionTT web site says available.
The 3/31 date is for 1116B as it has been for weeks.
I also was waiting for the 3/3 update. The post from @DoninGA spurred me to revisit the FTC. To make a long story short...
Reading on the IRS website, it is perfectly acceptable to change methods each year. You cannot use carryovers as a DEDUCTION, however.
My question is, does this make sense? If I claim a deduction this year, do I need Schedule 1116 attached to my return? Is there an impact on future year's returns?
Thank you for your help.
Exact same issue still exists on 3/3/22 even though the Turbotax forms status site says the Form 1116 is now available and I downloaded the most recent Turbotax update.
Make sure you signin with the Chrome browser and clear browsing data for all time first. Otherwise it will find the old error message and put it on your screen. The form was included in the update today, but sometimes it takes a while for it to reach to every system. I always wait until the day after. When they say 3/3/22, that means then have until 11;59 PM to get it to work and say if was updated on 3/3.
Honestly, I got tired of dinking around this one item. I had a $4 credit and finally gave up and elected to itemize the deductions (and ultimately lose the credit, but hey it's a cup of coffee). I've had my return ready to go except this item for a month now. Will likely rethink the software I use next year. I've been a Turbo Tax customer since the late 1990's, but time to move on if they can't get this one item to go and it was holding up a decent sized refund.
