Minor Child Return

Have some questions if I choose to let my minor child who is ten file a turbotax return

1) Can I create an online account even though the child is under 18 (the fine print say something about a person being over 18 to have an account/file)?

2) Would my child be able to efile without the returns being rejected? At what age can minor child efile?

3) If not able to efile is only option is to mail the return in? If tax is owed can a parent send a personal check or does it need to come from the child?

Your child is only 10?   I think it will not let them e-file if they are under 16, in which case they need to file by mail.

Not sure if online allows a 10 year old to create an online account.   If you use the desktop download you could prepare your own return and your child's return.

If your child owes tax it can be paid by check or money order in the mail or by using a credit or debit card on the IRS payment site.

Minor Child Return

The child cannot e-file their first tax return if they are under the age of 16.  They would have to print and mail the tax return.

You can create a TurboTax online account using your information as the owner of the account.  You can then create and complete a tax return for the child.

Any federal taxes owed on the child's tax return can be paid by any adult, using a check, credit card or debit card.  Or payment of federal taxes owed can be paid on this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/payments

Would I be able to create an account for my minor child or do I need to use my account?

So if the child is under 16 the efile option is not available and the return needs to be mailed in? Can my child sign it with my as 3rd party or is it best I sign it using the child sign language?

You create an account for the child using the online editions.  You only need to create a new account with a new User ID and you can use your email address for the account.  Go to this TurboTax website and click on Sign uphttps://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/file-your-own-taxes/

  • If you're filing a return for a minor child who cannot sign the return, sign the child's name followed by the word "by," then your signature, and your relationship, such as "parent" or "guardian for minor child."

Minor Child Return

I am guessing if I create an account for my child if there are any fee's using the turbotax software (like paying for the federal or state return) I can pay using my own card or should it come from my child's bank account?

It does not matter, you can use any valid payment method you choose.
