When you state it works with another "file", do you mean it works with another filing or pdf imported? Please note specifically what you are trying to do and someone will follow up with the next steps.
It works with another filing (taxpayer, I do 2 taxpayers on my computer). I reinstalled Turbotax to see if that would work, but it didn't change anything. So when I try to open the file it locks up with the oops message.
Thank you for these additional details! It doesn't specify what version you are using, but if you are Windows, you might try to manually update your software to see if this helps. To manually update your Turbo Tax software, see the Help Article here.
I am using Mac desktop Turbo Tax 2021 and have the same problem. This happened after my efiling was rejected. I have since received emails and texts that the efiling was successful but I cannot get back into Turbo Tax.
Are you using the desktop version or online version? @cpelzer
Yes
Desktop. When I try to open Turbo Tax, it checks for software and forms updates and tells me there are none. The next screen opens my return with the oh dear message on top. I can only close out the application.
This began after the efiling quit and I got a message that I might have to file by paper.
That is what mine does. It is impossible to access the file.
Please follow the instructions here to update the software.
Please let us know if you are getting the same error after performing the update.
I am using a Mac and the manual updates aren't made for Mac
Please see the below help article to see if that helps with your updating issue.

What is the TurboTax phone number?
@cpetzer
I received the same message with my Mac however if the IRS reject reflects “AGI” from Tax year 2020 the work around is change “AGI” to $0. See article from Washington Post. Turbo tax had to email to me a Turbo Tax download since I could not get back into existing software

FYI, if IR reject reflect "AGI" Adjusted Gross Income error, there is a work around to successfully eFile by entering $0 for previous year "AGI" verification, see link below from Washington Post.

I was able to efile my returns, but cannot get back into the return to print a copy. I keep getting an error message that TurboTax has to shut down and to update. It says it is updated , but won’t open. I wanted to print a copy.
