When you requested an extension, did you enter that you were making a payment at that time?  Is it showing up as a credit on your return ---and you really did not make that payment?

When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due.  Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return?  Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes

I think when I logged back in to complete it took me to the extension and I put my credit card info in to pay. And then when I completed the actual taxes afterward - it did take a few times to figure out how to "finish" these taxes, it then said zero owed so I figured it took the payment. But several days later it is still not showing the payment on my credit card. I don't want to get charged twice but I'm afraid it's not going to charge at all.

Your post is confusing.   When you say you "filed my extension"----are you referring to making your request for an extension back in April (or March)----because that is when you were supposed to pay the estimated tax due.    An extension does not give you extra time to pay your tax due---it only gives you extra time to prepare your Form 1040.  Did you pay the IRS back in April?

Sorry, I agree it is confusing. I could not pay it in April when I did the extension so the money is tardy for sure. When I went in recently to complete and finally pay it seemed to have taken me to the payment that should have been done at extension time. After completing payme t area it said "your extension is filed" or something along those lines. So I kept going back in to get to a completed return vs extension. And did. And it was accepted by IRS. The payment just has not processed. So, trying to figure out how to actually get that paid and I realize I have now unfortunately accrued penalties.

Well, yes....if you did not make a payment at the time you requested your extension, months ago, and had tax due as shown on line 37 of your tax form, then that payment was late.  TurboTax will not calculate the interest or penalties for the late payment.  Expect a bill from the IRS sometime in the future.

Am I able to addend and make payment thru TurboTax now? Or I have to wait on thr IRS to bill? I've never had to pay late so the entire thing has been different and distressing.

You should pay it now and let the IRS bill you for any extra interest.  I would pay the amount on your tax  return line 31 for the extension payment you did not pay in April.

You can Pay the IRS directly at

No.   You do not pay the IRS "thru TurboTax."   If you want to pay the IRS directly you can mail a check or money order, or you can pay directly on the IRS payment site.  But TurboTax cannot and will not calculate the interest or late penalties for you, so you should really just pay the amount shown on line 37 of your Form 1040 and wait for the IRS to tell you how much more you owe.  They will send you a letter

When I requested an extension, I entered that I was making a payment at that time. Is it showing up as a “federal extension credit” on my return, but I did not pay. What do i do?

If you need to delete a payment,  see this Extension FAQ for how to get there.  Then you can change to amount to zero.
