The IRS can take as long as they want to process the return and there is nothing you can do about it but wait patiently. They are processed individually these days so returns sent in at the same time will not necessarily process together or in the order they are received. The IRS states that 9 of 10 returns will process in 21 days or less. However considering that the IRS processes more than 140 million returns which means 14 million will be delayed for more than 21 days. There are no refund charts to refer to anymore so don't plan on your refund being in your account on any certain date then you won't be disappointed or overdrawn.  It is possible that you get a DD date posted by the IRS and then a moment before the refund is released it gets put on hold while the IRS reviews the account which can delay it for months.

Think of the IRS process as a long pipe line. Some returns will be rejected before being allowed into the pipe and the rest will be accepted. Then once accepted into the pipeline many will process directly through without any delays and some will not.  Some returns will be siphoned off for further review of some kind. The basis of what triggers these reviews is a well guarded secret but some are just picked randomly every year.

Some reviews are automated and some will require human attention. The processing times will vary but, due to the continued under staffing situation and budget cuts the IRS had been subject to,  they are likely to be much longer again this year. It has been reported that some of the delay this year is due to the new anti fraud security screenings that were implemented.

First -- verify that your returns have been filed and accepted --  then check the fed & state web sites to see where you are in the process-

Check Your E-File Status on this Secure TurboTax website
https://turbotax.intuit.com/efile/efile_status_lookup.jsp
- It will show the date you transmitted your return and if it was accepted or rejected.
- Both your Federal and State will be listed separately if you filed both.
- It will tell you when you E-filed
- The electronic filing date

See the following TurboTax support article on checking your e-file status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1908859-how-do-i-look-up-the-status-of-my-e-filed-return

If it's been more than 90 days since the return was accepted  then you can ask for help from the Tax Payer Advocate office:

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

If you are unsuccessful with the Taxpayer Advocate for your area, you can also try the special IRS phone number for the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778.

9 out of 10 refunds are processed within 21 days.  That means that 1 out of 10 can take an infinite amount of time that no one knows why, when or how long to wait before a refund magically appears.   That makes no sense and i suspect it's more like 1 out of 10 is processed in 21 days.   The American People must DEMAND an end to the IRS.   Obviously, this isn't working.

It have been months and it still is telling me being processed and also I have yet to receive my stimulus check.

Waiting is frustrating—refunds are taking longer in many cases.  These are not normal times.  It is not possible for TurboTax to speed up the IRS for you.  It seems to be taking longer than usual for them to process returns.  They are short staffed; and they are processing millions of tax returns at the same time that they have been burdened with the task of processing millions of stimulus checks.

The IRS is not taking calls right now.

IRS phone lines supported by customer service representatives for both taxpayers and tax professionals are not staffed at this time. To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

@TmLm1969 Once your return has been Efiled and Accepted by the IRS, TurboTax has no knowledge of the IRS processing times.

You have to obtain any info regarding your Refund directly from the IRS.

The Third Stimulus Payment  comes directly from the IRS, and is not connected to your tax return, so you should get that even if your return is still in process.

There may be some other reason for the delay. You are right that it is tough to reach the IRS right now.

Try creating or logging in to your IRS account. You can try to see why there is such a long delay. To do this, click the link: IRS View Your Tax Account.

The only other thing you could do is to try to get a Taxpayer Advocate. It will require more persistence and patience, though.

For more information, see: When will I get my IRS tax refund?

My return is accepted but still not approved. Is there a problem? Should I be worried?

No thank you it shouldve been smooth sailing after accepted there is nothing easy about using turbo tax there is lack of website interaction you just log on to see accepted or approved for months apperently. I will not be using turbo tax again and definitely make people aware of how this company performs.

There are several reasons this could occur. Some of the reasons are: you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit and/or an Additional Child Tax Credit (if you claim either of these credits, the PATH Act requires processing to be delayed), you filed Form 8379 (Injured Spouse Allocation), you have a refund offset, the IRS found errors, inconsistencies, or missing info on the return, the return is under review or the IRS suspects identity theft or fraud.

Have you checked the Where's My Refund? site ( https://www.irs.gov/refunds) to get the most updated status of your 2021 refund? You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status. If it's been more than 21 days since your e-filed 2021 return was accepted, you can call the IRS directly to check on your refund status. The IRS contact number is 800-829-1040 and they are open Monday - Friday, 7 am to 7 pm (local time).

@Maine4436 = from the IRS website:

The IRS is opening mail within normal timeframes and all paper and electronic individual refund returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review.

As of April 29, 2022, we had 9.6 million unprocessed individual returns which include returns received before 2022, and new tax year 2021 returns. Of these, 2.9 million returns require error correction or other special handling, and 6.7 million are paper returns waiting to be reviewed and processed.
