If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

Hi, have you received any update? Because the same thing happened to me and I’m not sure why nor what to do

If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

I called TurboTax and the person told me it must have been an automatic email due to being rejected the first time 3/18. I corrected it and it said mine was accepted 3/19. Email came 3/20 saying IRS rejected my return but it was from my first submission on 3/18. Hope that helps. They said ignore it.

If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

Just wanted to UPDATE: Turbo Tax said that my taxes was accepted on 2/10 and should be here by 3/3 its now 3/24 and the Where is My Refund still says processing

I have no letter from the IRS saying what is the problem

And also to make matters worst when you call the IRS the call just drops it tells me due to high call volume I even set my alarm to call soon as they opened

Guess  i wont get my taxes until 2022!!!!!

If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

Someone please explain this hot mess.

Filed 2020 taxes 02/12/2021on TT. Recieved email and text that my state and federal was accepted. recieved my state refund in good time. However, waited 41 days and my federal stayed at 1 bar. On the TT site it says my Federal wasaccepted 02/13/2021. It also says in red rejected 02/13/2021. My state said accepted 02/13/2021 and also in ted says rejected 02/16/2021. Obviously I called and called and called. Found out my return was rejected and in errors department. She couldn't tell me a code or why. She couldn't tell me about how it got both accepted and rejected. The rejected add on happened somewhere in time but was initially accepted. No letter. No offset. Recieved stimulus. I dont understand.

If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

I beg to differ. Both of mine i filed on TT for 2020. Accepted with confirmations 02/13/2021. On TT I have both statuses of accepted and rejected.

Have you checked with TurboTax and IRS tools? If not, please do so by clicking here:  TurboTax and IRS

Although the IRS has processed and issued most refunds from e-filed returns around 21 days, because of the pileup caused by the unprecedented situation of Covid, some of the returns will require more time to review.

Please also read this:

It is also possible that you owed IRS and they took your refund to offset the debt.  I will suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-3107 to find out.  If this does not apply to you , call the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778.

Here are the possible reasons when the offset is taken:

  • Past due child support;
  • Debts owed to a federal agency;
  • Unemployment debts owed to the state;
  • Past due federal student loans;
  • Unpaid state income tax.

For more information, see RefundOffset

If turbotax says my return is accepted by the irs, can it still be rejected later?

According to this IRS update as of April 23rd:

The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 16, 2021, we had 1.5 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 16, 2021, we had 16.1 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Payment Processing Issue: We identified a delay in processing Form 1040 balance due, Form 1040-X amended, and Form 1040-ES estimated tax payment requests submitted via Modernized e-File. The issue has been resolved, and pending payments are being processed. The taxpayer’s account will be credited with the original requested payment date(s). Taxpayers should not re-resubmit these payments.

If a taxpayer re-submitted any of these payment requests due to the delay in processing, they may cancel them by calling 888-353-4537. Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time, at least two business days prior to a scheduled payment date.

E-filing your 2020 tax return: To e-file you will need to enter your AGI from your tax year 2019 tax return.  If your 2019 return has not yet been processed, you may enter $ 0 (zero) as your prior year Adjusted Gross Income. If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool last year to register for an Economic Impact Payment, enter “$1” as your prior year AGI. See Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return

I'm in the same boat. TT shows my 2019 accepted but I never got my refund nor stimulus money. IRS does not reflect anything from me for 2019. It's definitely been frustrating.

Checking status with IRS,  IRS stated that return refund was held up because of missing SSN.  I don't understand.  Please explain!

I want to submit my request for the first and second stimulus payment that I have not received

@Jacktye If you did not get the 1st and/or 2nd stimulus check the way to get it is to file a 2020 tax return and use the recovery rebate credit.

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the FEDERAL REVIEW section. ( you should see "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount”)  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

Make sure that you enter ALL of the stimulus money received for the 1st and 2nd stimulus for yourself, your spouse and your children.
