If your income came from work as an independent contractor, you are required to file if you made even $400, and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.
If you received a W-2, you are not required to file a tax return, but may want to if tax was withheld --look in boxes 2 and 17 to see if federal or state tax was withheld. You can file to seek a refund.
Who has to file?

If that was your total income for the year you don't need to file except to get back any withholding taken out. If you are Single and get a W2 anything over 12,950 is taxable. If you get a 1099NEC you need to report any amount and pay self employment tax.
Do you need to file a return?

You are not required to file with income under $12,950 (the Standard Deduction for a single taxpayer). You do need to file if you received a Form 1095-A for Marketplace health insurance, though.
However, you can file if you had Federal Tax withheld on your income and would like a refund.
Here's more info on Filing Requirements.
