I have no penalty, but Turbotax filled out a form 2210, checked Box A and wrote in "85% waiver". I submitted the return, but it was rejected

This is for the CD version and not the Online Version.

Online Version steps are:

Go to Federal > Other Tax Situations > Additional Tax Payments > Underpayment Penalties, then in tax liability box for 2017 enter zero, same for the next prompt. Be sure to enter zero, simply leaving it blank will NOT remove the form (I tried that). Entering zeros will remove the 2210 form completely.

Then you can delete Form 2210 by going to <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4390865-how-do-i-delete-form-2210">https://ttlc.intuit.com/questio...>.

I finally got my return accepted. You have to do the following:

1 Do a search for "underpayment penalty"

2 Go through the interview for that section again.

3) You will need add the quarterly withholding amounts for each quarter (less the estimated tax payments)

4) You will be asked to input your income for the first three quarters. ( A large part of my taxable income was a RMD which I withdrew in Dec)

5) You will be asked to input by quarter what your short and long term capital gains were, if any, as well as  any qualified dividends. This info is on your 1099 B and D.

When you do this the 2210 form is reworked and it calculates any penalty that is due. In my case, I was informed no penalty was due. It then automatically input that info on line 23 of my 1040.

I then saved the changes under a different "save as" name before submitting. Thus I had prepared two tax returns, the original that kept getting rejected and the new one. I submitted the new one and received an acceptance in about a half hour.

Someone on this board suggested searching the "underpayment penalty" and it was the fix. Shame on TT for not posting this fix rather than telling us to print the return out and mail it.

I just got an update on feb 22 from turbo tax and i see that under Forms there is a pick that says remove Form 2210. I do not know if that is a new menu pick but was wondering if anyone tried it and did it remove the form 2210 and were you able to efile your return now with no problems?

Should now work filing with form 2210 (no need to remove it)
I just d/l'd the 2/22 update (Mac), and it now generates a statement with 2210 with the explanation "85% Waiver", so looks like its now fixed.  Just re-filed (and awaiting acceptance)

Edit:  Rejected.   I'll try again with next weeks update.

I used 22 Feb Version on Mac and Got Rejected,  Help in Turbotax says Refile.... Re-Rejected.   On the Mac Right click does not allow an override to remove the check

TurboTax fix updated to March 1st:
"The proposed fix date for the issue has been postponed to March 1st, 2019. The date is still subject to change, but there is a workaround available if you would like to do that instead: <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4612553-electronic-filing-rejection-code-f2210-003"">https://ttlc....>
For Windows/Mac Desktop, workaround if Box A is checked is to print and mail the return (yikes!  better to wait for the fix).  If Box B is checked, you can click "Explain" to created the attachment.

Why does Turbotax think I underpaid??  I overpaid  when withholding on my 1099-R's is considered!  Not Good

The so-called "work around" is BS. Mailing a paper copy is not viable. In a state like NY, you are required to e-file your state tax return if you prepare it with tax software. And NY state won't accept your return until the IRS accepts your Federal return. I am very disappointed in TT, a product I have used for many years.

In upper right hand corner you will see the box step by step.  Click on it to go to forms.  Under forms choose the 2210 form.  When the form comes up, at the very bottom will be a box to delete it.  Click on delete and the form and all it's entries will be gone.

Would you have a penalty without the waiver? Did you pay at least 90%of your tax liability? If not, the penalty may be waived by including Form 2210.
