You cannot do that.  If you used desktop software, the tax files are stored on your own hard drive or any backup device you use like a flash drive.  They are not stored online with your online TT account.

Hi @xmasbaby0, thank you for your response. I honestly don't understand.  Why would TurboTax make it so difficult to manage taxes differently online vs. offline? I only ask because I used the downloadable version this year and want to go back to the online version next year. But of course, I'd like to have my 2019 taxes online next year for reference. Does that make sense?

If understand this correctly, it really stinks that you can't get your previous year's tax info from the itax file into TurboTax Online. What a disincentive for possibly-longterm customers! Will they sell TurboTax download for 2020? If not, I'll be unhappy, because I've always pulled the previous year's data into the present product rather than starting over from scratch.

And another related situation I ran into. The login I've used for all these years (download since 2014, but CD much longer) no longer takes me to where it even knows my name! Though it says nothing about it on the home page, they have apparently made the standard login go to TurboTax Online now, which is apparently an entirely different thing -- almost completely but not quite -- it does use the same credentials, but not the same profile (weird & WRONG!).

To login to the old TurboTax account, you must now (though it doesn't tell you this) click on Access your Downloads (or something like that) and login there.

Chphooey!

If you used the desktop editions for 2019 and then want to use the online editions for 2020 you most certainly can transfer the 2019 tax file from the computer to the 2020 online tax return.

What you cannot do is transfer the same tax year date file from the computer to the same tax year online tax return.
