Please follow the instructions in this TurboTax FAQ to contact customer support for assistance: What is the TurboTax phone number?

SO, here’s how I fixed it...yes , that’s what I said. How I fixed it...none of the things suggested by the techs worked. But I was sitting there in utter frustration on the phone with Barbara, probably the nicest lady ever in the history of tech support, who agreed with me that free file may very well be, as we joked of course, the worse virus in the history of computer programs. I was considering creating a whole new profile, throwing away several years of continuity with my profile due to a one night stand basically (lol) no, I was tired and clicked on the wrong link from the IRS website, nowhere near TurboTax...and the lightbulb flickered and then glowed bright and I realized you have to QUALIFY for free file, so I quickly faked my way through the end of “let’s see if you’re taxes are ready” basically I filled in just enough to get through the program, filling in over 72k in income with no deductions, and got to the end and BAM, TurboTax bounced awake and realized GOSH, hey! YOU don’t qualify for FREEFILE, you have to PAY for your taxes!! And bada boom bada bing I was rerouted back to the IRS website.
I had a sinking feeling, but then I closed out my browser and then logged back into TurboTax where I was informed I needed to CHOOSE an acceptable filing program because I NO LONGER QUALIFIED FOR FREEFILE!!!!!!!
🍷 I drank 🍷 wine this year as I did my taxes!!!
This must be an update they made, because mine would just say I don't qualify and sent me back to IRS site, but never gave option to reselect version.
Even if they changed this, I don't think it is sufficient. I find it really annoying that during free file they limit your access to their help articles. Normally the buttons that explain a portion are really helpful, and it can make it harder to file without those.
IRS Free File is a different program than regular TurboTax - Free File does not have upgrade options or in product marketing. Please see this post (it is from last year) from a user that was able to successfully switch back to regular TurboTax. Also, if you prefer not to erase your cookies, you can open a private/incognito browser window and do the same thing there according to another user. But yes @BobEngleschmidt, the ''help'' in Free File, there is nowhere near the help you can get through TurboTax which accesses Community help.
I had fixed it already, using the incognito trick. I was just replying to this other commenter.
this suggestion worked. thanks!
Thank you so much! We were in the same situation as the original poster and this worked for us. Really appreciate the clear instructions.
Intuit should really have an easier way of doing this.
