You can securely import your 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-OID, or 1099-R into TurboTax, provided your broker or financial institution participates in our TurboTax Partner program.
When you get to the place in TurboTax where we ask if you received that form, answer Yes and we'll give you the option to import.
You can also jump straight to the section for your specific 1099 form. Here's how:
Tip: Be sure to select the right financial institution or brokerage from the list. For example, several participating partners' names start with First National Bank and if you select the wrong First National Bank, you won't be able to import.
You can import up to 1,500 transactions from your financial institution in TurboTax Online.
You have to be EXTREMELY careful..... The financial institution I use, for some estrange reason, had two identical 1099-INT for me and left out a cost basis on a sale which would have resulted in my paying an additional $3K in my taxes.
TurboTax then goes ahead and checks but does NOT detect duplicate entries, which it should !!
Needless to say, you will have to double check every entry if you want the program to work accurately......
Its a shame they don't do more error checking....both Turbo Tax and the financial institution which I won't mention....altho I am tempted.
I have the desk top version of TurboTax. When I go to enter the User ID and password, am able to cut&paste the User ID from my password manager. However, cannot cut & paste the password. This makes it difficult to use this feature since all my passwords are 20 positions randomly generated and not easy to make sure it is keyed correctly. How can I know that my password is correctly entered since I can't cut&paste it or view it? Thank you.

this has been the most annoying situation for years now!! they need to fix the inability to cut and past these huge passwords to import data!!
When I click on the financial institution it shows a list of forms available for import but there is no action to take. I can only click on an icon that says go back . What am I missing
Broker statements cannot be imported usually until mid February at the earliest and the other 1099s only when the issuer makes them available in the import portal. Talk to the issuer to see when the info will be available. If you have the paper copy already you can just enter it manually as it only takes a minute. And all imported information needs to be reviewed carefully for accuracy ... the program is not responsible for import errors.
If I started to input the information(taxable/reportable investments) directly myself ....
how can I change my mind and have an up load/ transfer done
once I get the advisor's ID?
Should I just delete my manual entries before I ask for an import?...or will Turbo tax correct for duplicates.
You should delete what you have already manually entered to prevent duplicate entries. Even after importing the info, you should always double-check to make sure all the entries are correct, or at least the summary totals match the 1099-B you have.
Here is how to directly import 1099 from your financial institution:
