My step daughter is a US resident alien and has a green card. How do I find her ITIN?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is not on her green card. You have to apply for an ITIN.
An ITIN is for taxpayers who don't qualify for a Social Security Number (SSN). It's a 9-digit number that looks like an SSN except it always begins with the number 9.
ITINs are used exclusively for filing tax returns. They don't entitle the taxpayer to Social Security or other benefits.
To apply for an ITIN, complete IRS Form W-7, IRS Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. The Form W-7 requires documentation substantiating foreign/alien status and true identity for each individual.
You may mail the W-7 and documentation to the address in the Form W-7 Instructions, present it at a local IRS office, or use an Acceptance Agent, which are colleges, financial institutions, accounting firms, etc. who are authorized by the IRS to assist applicants in obtaining ITINs. They'll review the W-7 and documentation before sending it to the IRS.
Form W-7(SP), Solicitud de Número de Identificación Personal del Contribuyente del Servicio de Impue... is available for Spanish speakers.

If you have already applied for an ITIN and cannot locate your ITIN letter, you can call the IRS ITIN Hotline at 1-800-908-9982.

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is only issued by the IRS on request if you are not eligible for a Social Security number.
@chandu1432 No one can send you your ITIN number. No one else has access to your account, your tax returns or your information. If you used that ITIN on a previous tax return, then look at the tax return and get your ITIN.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

would it be on my tax returns
@rosario1968 If you used your ITIN on a past tax return it will be on that return. In fact the reply above your own post tells you to look there.

The ITIN is entered on the tax return in the same place where a Social Security number is entered.
I'm not a US citizen and I don't have Social Security Number, I got my ITN a long time ago but I don't know what the number is, how do I know what my ITN number is?
