How do get a refund for my state e-file when TurboTax refuses to send it?

I intended to e-file both Fed and California State. I went through all the checks... no errors. I paid for CA State e-file. When I tried to do the final e-file submission AFTER paying... TurboTax said "Oh, we have to do one more check" and then it told me that it is unable to e-file my CA State because my W-2 has the state abbreviation CA more than once in box 15. (Thanks for nothing TRINET HR III-A, INC.!)

WHY THE F DIDN'T IT TELL ME THIS BEFORE IT ALLOWED ME TO PAY FOR CA STATE E-FILE?!?!?!?!?!

I want my $25 back.

Any clues as to how to get this resolved? The "Contact Us" page is currently blank...

First, check that the extra "CA" for box 15 is really necessary.  Sometimes W-2 provider will stick unnecessary info in boxes 15,16,17, when it really belongs in box 14.  IF that is the case, you can delete the extra line for boxes 15,16,17 and only leave the one main main line of information of CA tax withholding and total pay in one of those boxes.   BUT, we/I can't know what is actually shown on you W2 and what it represents. 

 

For instance, box 14 is supposed to show the taxes CA takes for CA SDI and CA VPDI  amounts.

If you still end up having to mail-file CA, then you get a state filing refund by calling customer support and indicate you have a "Billing Issue" .  But don't call today or tommorrow.....the phone support lines are getting hammered by gazillions of other people who waited until the last second to file.

I mentioned that it's a TriNet W-2 because I think they are in a unique position to offer a combined W-2 for two different companies, so many of the boxes have 2 entries instead of the standard 1.
I doubt it's kosher for me to just manually add the two numbers together into a single line and try to re-e-file, but please let me know before I head to the post office this afternoon 🙂

ahhh....Yeah, I don't know about that situation.

 

The have been problems with forms from payroll agents where they issue one, or sometimes multiple W-2 forms in past years, where more than one employer is involved.  Two employers results on the same form is a new one from anything I've encountered before.  

 

Perhaps someone else knows how to deal with it in a practical sense for e-filing....But since it's the last day, there's no time to investigate for a few days, or a week....so mail filing today may be your only option.  Don't forget to sing and date the main CA form, and send in the state copies of any tax forms that show any state withholding on them.

 

Leave getting the state e-filing refund for later this week, when things quiet down.

So I spent some time with Google (not the built in search on this site), and found the following, on this site from last year...

It addresses my exact problem and so I went with their solution. TurboTax let me e-file it just now. We'll see if it's accepted by the state.
