Agreed!

The Top menu bar "File -> Duplicate" will change to "File -> Save As" when the option key is held down.
HAHAHA, come on, that is pathetic UI that nobody should accept. Plenty of File menus, even on the Mac, have "Save as" as a plainly visible option.
Secret menus that are revealed by modifier keys may as well not exist. How on earth the user supposed to guess at their existence? You're supposed try Option, Control, and Shift... and every combination of them every time you have a menu open, to see if there are hidden goodies?
Puhleeze.
I can’t save to a jump drive on my MacBook Pro so I moved the file to my hard drive and it saved ok. When I was finished filing I moved the file back to my jump drive.
I was able to import last years last file from the jump drive to start this years taxes. The problem started when Turbo Tax tried to auto save and couldn’t do so. I checked the tax files info and it was not locked and I had read write permission.

Best answer. I made the changes suggested in this post and now my file saves automatically.
Thanks

That is the Apple supplied interface, not TurboTax. Apple removed "Save as" several years ago and made it an option. Complain to Apple.
See: https://www.idownloadblog.com/2018/03/13/how-to-enable-save-as-mac/
No. Developers can populate menus as they see fit. There are loads of Mac applications that provide "Save as" without any secret key combinations. Safari, for example.
It's disgraceful that Apple even presents this mechanism, especially without any visual indication. But it is absolutely the developer's choice to use it; one that should never be made.
Except everyone besides TurboTax can do it!!!!!
WOW. I can't save my return AT ALL. This is definitely the last year I use TurboTax!!
Unbelievable that I STILL can't save a file, almost a year later! Is there anyone actually working at TurboTax?? KNOCK KNOCK IS THIS THING ON??
I can't save the file at all, actually, so this info is the first thing I've read that's helpful. Thank you!
Please try updating the program.
Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software (Basic, Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business)
You can try to update manually, scroll down the article for those steps.
I assume you are on a MAC. Try this. Apple menu>System Preferences. Select Security and Privacy. Click Privacy at the top. In the left window scroll down to and click on Full Disk Access. In the right window scroll up and down to see if TurboTax 2021 is checked. If not click on the lock in the lower left corner of the window and enter your user password. Check the box next to TurboTax 2021. If TurboTax 2021 is not in the list, click the + below the window to add it. When finished, click the lock again to save the changes.
I don't know why the TurboTax install doesn't take care of this. Every other program I've installed does but this one does not.
Hope this helps!
Hey thank you for this! This is exactly what I did. TurboTax said I needed to quit for the change to take affect though, which made me think that all the data entry I had just done (about 90 minutes’ worth of entering 1099s and expenses!) was a waste of time, but fortunately it did let me save that one time to the desktop, and when I reopened it, my entered data was still there, and it will let me save the file (I don’t have to save it as a new copy each time). Thanks again!
