I efiled first week of February in 2020! We should have definitely been in the system by now.
I checked my return thoroughly. There are no errors. However, my e filed return has been rejected 3 times. The same thing happened last year when I used turbotax. Now I have already arranged to pay my 2021 taxes due through an ACH draft on April 17th.
So I have to mail in my printed copy of my return. Do I need to stop the April 17th payment and mail a check?
Do I have to send w-2s and 1099s?
What a mess!
Yes! I understand that I can mail in my return. But what about the scheduled payment on April 17th. Will the IRS connect my arranged payment (through Turbotax) with my mailed tax return?
What was the rejection error you received @Dugaldwinter?
It swaps between these two:
IND-031-04 - The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records
IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.
I've tried every suggestion posted and read on News, e.g., zero for me (spouse), zero for hubs, zero for both, etc. Have been doing this for several weeks and have now tried to submit 17 times and been rejected 17 times.
We efiled 2020 in early February 2020 so returns should definitely have been processed.
Did the IDMe and got IRS transcript and the AGI they have listed is exactly what we've been using.
I know I can switch to print, but those returns will sit in bins at IRS for another year and I'm afraid it will screw up efiling for a long time to come.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Oops, sorry should have said we efiled 2020 in early February 2021.
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
Wonder how it is, but that zero works; seems TT should make a change to the software to prominently let taxpayers know - after all it is our numbers in the return - that if the AJI is the only issue for rejection, enter ZERO and resubmit.
As I shared earlier, I almost lost my $27 State of Ohio TT filing fee because of that missing AJI.
What a wonderful group of TT helpers we are to share our knowledge.
Just tried this option of saying we didn't file last year; rejected with IND-031-04

Hey Man,
You are WAY more than the CHAMP.
TT should use your recommendation in the Web Site.
Think of all the TT filers frustration you would eliminate. Why? Because you solutions Work. For me, the zero AGI worked. If it had not, I am sure the "Did not file last year" would have worked.
Because of what you are saying, and it is true, the IRS is backed up due to Congressional lack of funding, it would be OK in my mind for TT to tell us this; I did file with the correct 2020 AGI and was rejected, but accepted with zero.
Your are, IMhumbleO, the TurboTax Champ for this 2021 filing season. Best to you.
Bottom line up front: after 22 efiles and 22 rejects, I threw in the towel and just mailed in our return this morning.
Tried suggestion to say we didn't file; still got rejected. This is clearly a TurboTax caused error that they apparently don't know how to fix. We know IRS processed last year's return because our IRS transcripts shows they did. Need to figure out how to get refund from TurboTax for software.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Add my experience to the list. Rejected four times so far. I have the 2020 transcript in hand. Filed jointly. AGI matches. Used PINs from last year. Just tried zero for spouse's AGI; no luck. I used an accountant the last three years and went back to TT this year. It's possible that's the source of the problem, but it shouldn't be. I guess mailing it in by hand is still cheaper than the accountant, but Intuit owes all of us an apology. This is their issue, and they need to own up to it. To say that the IRS doesn't have us in their database is equivalent to saying that e-file data must be moved into database by hand. If so, we're in big poo-poo in this country since the current administration wants to complicate the tax laws even further.
Is this something that could be a software error because Im experience the same situation and is the first time that it happened, I have been using your software for 5 or more years and is the first time struggling with this, so Im truly stressed because of that, I know I make every according your software but been rejected twice is not the most comfortable feeling.
The "AGI not matching" reject is a known intuit/IRS interface problem this year and they appear to be doing nothing to fix it. We have efiled for years since it was first offered and we have never had a problem until this year. After 22 efile tries and 22 rejects, we mailed a paper copy to IRS. Look through this site and you will see options to try, such as putting in zero when it asks for your AGI. We tried every suggestion without any luck, but others have had some luck.
