Cannot seem to get the form 5695 imported into my turbo tax efile how do I do this?

Well then that sucks and the Turbo Tax rep had no idea what he was talking about. I was told to print the return and mail it certified mail, which I did. Not sure why you guys can't get your act together.

Cannot seem to get the form 5695 imported into my turbo tax efile how do I do this?

looks like the 5695 and 8911 in TT is still messed up - it keeps prompting to enter address and GEOID. And the credit calcs also seems incorrect as noted by other users previously. As a result, i am getting lower credits via TT vs FTU or HRB. No wonder filings are getting rejected by IRS. Did a screenshare with an agent, deleted the in-progress return and re-entered the details again only to find that the issue still remains. High time TT looks into the issue and gets this fixed, especially when other free version products seem to handle this with ease.

If I prepare my standard taxes using the free version of TT and print the 1040 to mail in instead of filing electronically, can I simply attach the Form 5695 and mail it in with the 1040?

As of the last TurboTax update, most of the known issues with Form 5695 have been resolved.

There is still a calculation issue affecting only joint ownership of the home and claiming one specific credit that is scheduled to be corrected with the next update around March 8th.  If this applies to you, see this link and sign up for updates:  Why is TurboTax limiting my Home Energy Credit when I have a non-spouse occupant?

If you are still experiencing an issue, please respond with details so that someone may help you get it resolved.

I am hopping on here as a former TT user and current H&R Block user to see if TT was having the same issues with Form 5695. From the information I am gathering from the IRS, IRS Tax Law and H&R Block, the IRS pushed back the efile date with Form 5695 to March 15. If anyone has been able to efile with the form, please let me know. When I spoke with the IRS, you can mail your 1040 in with the form and Schedule 3 attached. The actual discrepancy is Line 5a on your Schedule 3 is not matching Line 15 on Form 5695 on the electronic side. At least that was what the Tax Law Attorney noticed from the IRS when we reviewed mine.  Hope this helps some of you who are struggling like me.

I had to amend my return and then print it out and mail it to the IRS.

@bartaki707 Most TurboTax users can file their tax returns using the updated Form 5695 for tax year 2023.

There is some problems if you share a home with someone else and are not filing as Married Filing Jointly.  The software has a bug that is being worked on because it is not giving the correct credit for the items that were installed.  The other issue for a small group of users is if they are married and have separate residences and using the credit for each residence, again this is being worked on.  There may be an update on 03/07 that corrects these issues.

For other users the Form 5695 is effective and the tax returns with the form have been filed with no issues.

Personally, I had a credit for an HVAC unit that was installed in 2023 and filed my return a week ago and it was accepted by the IRS.

I filed via another software this year after 10+ years with TT. The refund got approved by IRS. 2 reasons:

1. Higher tax credit calculated via other softwares vs TT

2. Issue with filling the form itself

It is now 04/03/24 and I just found Form 5695 included with my Federal Taxes when I printed out a copy just before I e-Filed my taxes. What a surprise!! I went back to the beginning of the federal program looking at every question and found nothing about completing form 5695.  I did complete the State form for Residential Energy Property Expenditures, but I cannot e-file them either because of the state's form cannot be e-filed.  Must be something I have been hearing about Artificial Intelligence. Maybe we should call it NI, No Intelligence. It is 3:51 on 04/03/2024, I quit and going back to doing the old way in pencil! Wasted days and wasted money!

@gachapman50 The Form 5695 is completed after you have gone through the Home Energy Credits section.

To enter Home Energy Credits -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credit
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Under Your Home
On Home Energy Credits, click the start or update button

Or enter energy improvements in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to energy improvements
