Can we file taxes by mail if our e-file was rejected? The AGI is correct and we paid using our credit card.

Turbo tax indicates we are unable to file by mail since we paid by credit card. What should we do?

Your fee for using online TurboTax is the same whether you e-file or file it by mail.

What is the rejection code or rejection message?

If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2023 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

That doesn’t sound right.   You can’t file by mail?   What does it say exactly?  What did you pay by credit card?  The Turbo Tax fees or a tax due?

Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time.  Especially if you mailed it.  That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

Just a thought.   Did your credit card payment go through?   You have to pay the fees before you can print and to mail.
