I spent over an hour on the phone with a very helpful agent who, despite looping in a supervisor, was unable to add the second download to my account.
Has anyone been successful at getting both added to their account with the same license code this year?
One way around this could be if you know someone with a mac that has a CD drive they could save the MAC installation file to a thumb drive to move to your return. OR buy a cheap external CD drive.
I just spoke to tech support, had my claim escalated to speak to his supervisor. His supervisor told me that you can file 5 forms on one computer, but not install it across platforms. I told her I have not seen this in writing anywhere and have been using Turbotax for years without running into this problem. Is there something she could do? She told me she would send me the article regarding this. A few minutes later she told me that it says she is supposed to push me the downloader for Mac, but that she was not going to do that because I already had a downloader that worked. I told her that I do not have a Mac downloader that worked and if she received instructions to send me a Mac download file then she should do so. At this point she started yelling at me and talking over me, saying she is not going to do that, she does not have to do that and I already have a downloader that worked. I told her I would like to speak to her supervisor and she told me that she will not let me speak to her supervisor and hung up on me. Received an email that my case [phone number removed]) has been closed, so there will not be any follow up on this at ell either. The whole call took about an hour out of my day.
This was a very distressing experience. I have never been treated this poorly through any customer service experience. I have received better service at the DMV. Completely shocked by this treatment.
I hope others using this software have better luck than I did.
I just spent 6.5 hours on the phone with TurboTax after I was unable to get a 2nd download for TurboTax Deluxe. The upshot was that the first person who utilizes the software must download must enter whether it will be for Mac of PC. Then ALL REMAINING DOWNLOADS MUST ALSO BE USED FOR THE SAME machine type! My son downloaded for his MAC, then I wasn't able to download for my PC. This is a BIG change that no one appears to know about. I was advised I could purchase another TurboTax product or purchase another computer. From 5 users to 3, then not able to use on multiple machines? I haven't found this addressed online. Would LOVE your input!

The TurboTax license agreement states that you can install TurboTax on up to 5 computers that you own and does not specify the OS type. These agents need more training on how to push the download for the other platform to your account. All that they should need is to be able to verify that the TurboTax download was purchased. The CD contains both platforms and the download is the same, but you need to ask for a download for the other platform. The agents should know this but unfortunately phone agents are seasonal employees and come and go so each year has a lot of new agents with various knowledge.
I have referred this thread to the forum moderators.
I don't know with whom I am corresponding or what kind of influence you have when you refer the thread to forum moderators. Having read all further comments on this topic, I can't disagree with any of them regarding the level of service, overall run around. TT's automated answering service is a joke- couldn't understand ANYTHING I said. When I stood my ground with ridiculous suggestions, I was finally transferred to someone who eventually sent me a link to a new key code, then stayed on the line and talked me through downloading it, which required one jump through many more hoops than the normal installation. I also had a lengthy conversation regarding this "new" issue of MAC OR Windows installation, during which she said multiple times I could call for a new download link if I experienced this issue in future issues, then contradicting herself that I COULDN'T call and get another link. Seriously thinking of switching to an accountant- my nerves have HAD IT!!! And TT could care less about customer service!
I purchased download (no CD) version of TT Home and Business. The product represented that I could download on to 5 computers. Download to my Mac, but was unable to also download to my PC/Windows machine. After working my way through the automated answering service, and finally reaching a live representative, and explaining the problem (and simple solution to merely push the PC/Windows version to my account), I was told that in order to download on my PC, I would need to purchase another version (PC/Windows) of TT. I asked to speak with a supervisor. After waiting on hold for a further extended period - I simply gave up. TT has apparently won the war of attrition, but in doing so is losing business.
If anyone has the final answer - would love to hear it. TurboTax? Intuit?
I understand its not available on line. Must call. Please clarify
Please see this Turbo Tax help article.
Can I install TurboTax on more than one computer?

What they don't tell you is that if you want to download to a MAC and a WIN program you must buy the CD which has both program install functions on it. When you buy a download you must choose either WIN or MAC. Now in the past they have allowed you to call in for the other OS download (which was gratis) however since that required a new license code which would allow another 5 efilings that practice may have been stopped.
YES!!! We use both PCs and Mac in our home, and FINALLY - after being hung up by customer service and being told that you had to purchase both versions - I was able to talk to a different rep who transferred me to Daniel, a turbo tax software specialist - and he told us the way to do this moving forward -- WITHOUT ever calling customer service again.
HOW TO INSTRUCTIONS:
Go to: installturbotax.com
Scroll down to Sign in
Login to your account
Enter the license code for your product (if you can't see your license code behind the pop-up, close the pop-up, copy your license code; you may have to open another window and go to installturbotax.com again to make the pop-up come back).
Once you enter your license code, you'll be given download options for all operating systems (so I was finally able to add the MAC download to my account!!!)
@southmplsmom I'm just wondering about your comment "I was finally able to add the MAC download" --sounds like your first installation was on a PC. Is that correct? And if so, did you use a download version on your PC? Thanks.
Yes, we have the TurboTax for PC on auto renewal through turbo tax each year, as one person in my family uses the PC, and I use a Mac.
It used to be that we'd always call support for them to push the Mac download each year (after we stopped getting the discs), but this year the customer service reps kept saying we had to buy the Mac version, and I kept telling them that wasn't true.
But, as I said, someone finally connected us to someone in software support and he gave us those step-by-step instructions so we never would have to call in again.
This doesn't work. I get the following message when doing so, which is referring to the Mac version already downloaded (I have bought the CD version.)
What did not work? I don't see your error message.
Here's what worked for me: installed from CD on my PC. Then attached external CD drive to my Mac and used the same CD to install on my Mac.
