There is no fee to direct deposit a tax refund using TurboTax

.

If you are referring to the totally optional Refund Processing Fee of $40, that is only if you want to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund.  If you do not want this option then simply use a credit card to pay the TurboTax account fees in Step 1 of the File section.  Then continue with the File section, completing all 3 steps and e-file your tax return.

If you file by mail, you have to pay your TurboTax fees upfront using a credit card so that you can print out your return.   Your fee is the same whether you e-file or mail the return in.   You can still have your refund direct deposited to your bank account, but you cannot defer paying the fees by having them deducted from your federal refund.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

It's unclear what you mean.

If you are using the Desktop version of Turbotax (installed on your own Mac or PC), there is a $25 or $30 fee to e-file your state tax return.  (There is no extra fee to e-file a federal return.)   Yes, you can print your state return and mail it in, and avoid the extra fee.  Even if you print and mail your state return, you can still pay your tax owed from your bank account, or get a direct deposit of your refund into your bank account.  Your bank account numbers will be printed on the tax return and the state will get the information that way.

If you are referring to the $40 extra free for refund processing that applies to a federal return, that is only if you want to pay your turbotax online fees by deducting them from your refund.  If you pay your program fees with a credit card, you won't be charged this extra fee when you file, and it won't be deducted from your federal refund if you are expecting one.

No matter which version of Turbotax you are using (desktop or online) there is no extra fee to e-file your federal return, or to have your refund directly deposited into your own bank account without deductions.
