Bug with charitable contributions limit

I'm married filing jointly. Cash donation of $575 triggers an error on review:

“1040/1040SR wks charitable contributions has an unacceptable value.” Program (TT Premier) is complaining about a value it filled in. Limit should be 600, but it rejects anything I enter over 300. Even if I had contributions over the limit, TT should just cap my entry to the limit, not reject it.

I was single when I filed last year, and set this years status to married. I mention that in case it is part of the trigger condition for this program bug,

I'm having (I think) a related problem with the 1040/1040SR Wks: Upon "Review" this worksheet generates an error by inserting $300 (charitable contribution limit) where the new limit of $600 should appear on line 12. This causes an error to appear in the review, which when corrected to $600, causes the error to be "fixed" and re-running Smart Check is error-free. However, returning to an earlier section and then running review again re-generates the same error. I've tried unchecking the "print 1040SR" (noted in another error thread) but it doesn't make a difference in this error.

It depends. If you are receiving this error, try this workaround to resolve the issue.

    1. If working in the online version go to federal>deductions and Credits>charitable donations
    2. Go to Donations to Charity in 2021 and remove all charitable donations from this section.
    3. Now Scroll to the very bottom
    4. Select Wrap up Tax Breaks (Online)
    5. Continue through the interview until you reach a message informing you that the Standard Deduction is Right for you.
    6. The very next screen will say "Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act"
    7. Enter your donation.

If you are working in Desktop first remove all charitable donations as described above. After this is done, perform the following steps while you are working in the deductions and credit section.

    1. Scroll to the bottom of the page
    2. Select Done with Deductions
    3. Let's check your Deductions .. Continue
    4. Here are your 2021 Deductions ... Continue
    5. The Standard deduction is right for you ... Continue
    6. GET A TAX BREAK FOR DONATING CASH TO CHARITY
    7. Enter your amount

    Hi.

I have the Desktop version.  I did the steps you outlined.  This removes the detail of all my charitable contributions ($3300 to various organizations) and let's me enter in $600.  It corrects my charitable deduction allowed to $600 and when I do the Final Review, it doesn't flip it back to $300.  However, by removing the details of all my charitable contributions, my state tax return changed, reducing my refund there by $200.

So I went back to enter one of my charities where I had more then $600 in donations, and ran the review and it is changing the deduction again.  This is a bug!  How do I get the $600 with the detail of my charities entered?
