The instructions from turbotax to amend my return say "To amend your 2020 return, you need to use the same TurboTax account that you used to file your original 2020 return. If you don’t see your 2020 return under Your tax returns & documents on the Tax Home screen, you might be in the wrong account. Use our account recovery tool to find all of your accounts."
My tax returns and docs tab only shows 2017 even though I have been using turbotax desktop since 1997. Someone told me I can open 2021 and click amend and pull up the 2020 return. When I did that and selected the 2020 return, it wants to amend my 2021 return instead. I originally tried going in to my 2020 turbotax which is still installed, but it is requiring my license key again, and I can't find my software. (I purchased it from Costco, so turbotax does not have the key in its records). Are there any workarounds?

[phone number removed]. Support is where I got the instructions that don't work for me because only my 2017 return shows up under my docs and returns.
How to access prior online returns
Maybe you are in the wrong account … many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now to use the account recovery tool.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :
I have my 2020 tax file, and a pdf file. But Turbotax wants me to re-enter my license key from 2020 (the program is still installed and was never uninstalled), and I can't find my software that I installed it with. I am wondering if there are any files that turbotax saves on its installation that contain the key I could retrieve it from to re-enter it or if there is another way to get it.

Maybe this will help? Is it asking you to Activate again?
Make sure your computer is the same way when you originally installed it. Like with no flash drives plugged in or plugged in if one was. Even a printer plugged in or not. It asked me again so I just closed the program and took out a flash drive that was plugged in and tried again. It worked.
