Am i getting an additional $44 charge for taking the fee out of my refund??

Are you in California?  If you want to have the fees deducted from your refund you have to get Premium services.  There is an extra $40 (45 in California) Refund Processing Service charge for that which you can avoid by paying upfront with a credit card.

In the Online version,  If you are in California you need to remove the Premium Service first then pay with a credit card

Yes, under the FILE section:  "How would you like to pay?" At the very bottom it shows the following:

OR

pay with your Federal Refund

Don't worry about pulling out your wallet.

We'' simply deduct the fees from your federal refund

and send the balance to your bank account

Must e-file federal return

$40 Refund Processing Service fee

That's, if you ask TT to pull money from your Federal Refund, it charges you a refund processing fee of $40.  I am not sure how you get $44 instead of $40.
