As best as I can tell, these reject codes are available to software developers only by request from the Alabama Department of Revenue. This is odd, since most states publish the reject codes, but like you, I can't find them either.
You might call this number at the state: 334-242-1170 Option #1
If they tell you where these codes can be located online, please let us know.
I called the state of Alabama and I was told that the reject is on TurboTax and not with them...The rep stated that the reject code was due to TurboTax and not with the state of Alabama and I needed to contact TurboTax about the rejection...
I have provided the FAQ link below where you can reach out to TurboTax customer support for assistance:
Hi. I'm having the same issue with the rejection codes.
Have you resolved your issue? Turbo Tax is not allowing me to "fix" the issue and the state of AL has no clue on the codes.
Can you describe what the issue is? We would be able to offer specific assistance if we know what the problem is on your return.
Look for an ACTION NEEDED! email from turbotax@intuit.com. It will give you a brief explanation of your reject and how to update it.
Didn't get an email? Sign in to TurboTax, select Fix my return, and you'll see your reject code and explanation.
if you received an e-file rejection, don’t worry. An e-file rejection means that some things on your return don't match the IRS database, and you’re given the opportunity to fix them and refile.
To get started, follow these instructions:
I have the following message:
Reject Code AL40OC-105
Reject Code AL40OC-140
When I log in and select "fix it" it just moves on to refile return without actually going through to fix it. I have tried to start over and edit the state return and it just takes me to the refile page.
I originally got a statement about an software update on March 5, 2021, but I still get routed to the refile page without being able to actually fix my return.
What do I do now? I have tried to call several times. The State of Alabama is saying it is a Turbo Tax software issue. I have used you for years and never had an issue until now.
So after talking with the State of Alabama who referred me back to TurboTax because they stated it was a TurboTax issue, TurboTax now says that I owe AL when initially I didn't owe AL anything...To actually get past the fix I had to accept what was owed to AL and then my state return was finally accepted...All my filing amounts from Federal to both my GA and AL taxes were changed from my initial filing and changed significantly...I have been doing my taxes with TurboTax for 9 yrs and never had an issue and unfortunately this will be my last year filing with them...When talking with TT customer service they don't have a reason why I didn't initially owe AL but later now I owe AL and they don't know why my initial filing amounts changed to completely different amounts...So my advice is to pay attention to your filing amounts to see if your amounts owed or not owed has changed for both your Federal and State taxes...but to get past the error code I had to accept my now owed amount to AL and then my return was accepted...
Is there a TurboTax expert that can help me with the same exact issue. Please! Just got rejected again!
@EricaJ87 What version of TurboTax are you using? What rejection code are you receiving?
Turbotax deluxe is not allowing me to file my Alabama state tax because of "unappropriate value error in Federal Tax Schdule A (300) chariatble deduction allowance when filing as married filing joint. How do I fix". My federal return was accepted with this error.
If you are still getting an error, it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2020" file that is experiencing this issue.
You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
