2024 tax data not correct

While preparing my 2025 return, I noticed the 2024 AGI shown was not what was submitted to IRS last year. I also noticed that an underpayment penalty was calculated because the total tax for 2024 was not correct. I called and spoke with a tax expert who confirmed that I entered a 2024 1099-R correctly. During that call, I found a 2024 tax summary that shows incorrect total income, AGI, taxable income, other taxes, total tax and balance due. I've since spoken with two product specialists. One of them suggested TurboTax is aware of the issue. The second  specialist acted like the issue would be resolved in due course. My question is: How do I escalate this matter within TurboTax Support?

2024 tax data not correct

The difference in the AGI could be if you filed an amended return, or if the IRS made any adjustments on your return. You should go back and print your actual tax return to compare it to the tax summary to see what the difference is if any.  You could also request a transcript from the IRS to get your tax return information as they have it.

For more information on how to request your transcript, print your prior year return, and contact information, see the TurboTax help articles below:

2024 tax data not correct

Thanks, Leticia. I have not filed an amended return. I obtained my 2024 transcript from IRS. The figures in the transcript agree with the 1040 I submitted. I see no evidence at IRS that anything changed there.

I’m working to escalate my query within TurboTax. Yesterday, I spent 2.5 hours with an escalation team agent, but am no closer to resolution. And, with no way to reach the agent I worked with yesterday, my only option appears to be to start the process over today.

2024 tax data not correct

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud. Make sure you take into account the information below.

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

  • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
  • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
  • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2024 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter  0  for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

2024 tax data not correct

This excuse-making in these responses is pretty frustrating. I'm having the same problem - about to file 2025 and turbotax is showing a 2024 AGI that is $9,000 higher than the AGI on my filed form. I logged into my IRS account and right there on the IRS site it shows my 2024 AGI being the exact same as what I filed last year.  No amendments, no rounding of pennies, and most importantly no links for me to drill in and figure out where turbotax is getting this number that is too high by $9k!

Update several hours later: I found the discrepancy. I started an amended 2024 return to poke around and compare with my original filed PDF. I sold a rental property in 2025 (45 days of use) and my 2024 data is now showing 75 days of use in 2024, while the filed form correctly has 366 days of use. Using 75 days lowers 2024 depreciation by $9k, increasing AGI by the same amount. I edited the days of use to "full year", but the wrong depreciation isn't updating. Either way... Why did my 2024 data change? Why is this different value being pulled into my 2025 process as the filed 2024 AGI for identification purposes? Given that my 2024 data has a too-low depreciation, why is the 2025 sale showing the correct total lifetime depreciation (compared to my hand-calculated value)? Note, I never edited 2024 previously and definitely never filed an amended return.

I think you’re on the right track looking at that 2024 amended return that was not filed. I found that I’d done something similar. I put in some data to see how a potential change in my income would affect my taxes. The data I input remained making it look like my 2024 AGI was actually different. Once I backed out the data I entered for my “what if” scenario, my AGI went back to what was reported for 2024. I hope you have the same experience.
