I have a daughter who turned 17 on 12/20/2020. I normally don't have to file a tax return because of low income. I did not file a 2019 tax return. When the first stimulus checks came out I had to file a special form online with the IRS in order to get the first stimulus check and the payment did come for both of us- $2400. The 2nd stimulus check came last month but it was for only $600, with no payment for my daughter. I have created a tax return for 2020 and just show a little bit of income with zero tax due and claim my daughter as a dependent. When I get to the section about stimulus payments I show $2400 rec'd for the first payment but only $600 for the 2nd payment. It does not allow the missing $600 for my daughter. Is this correct? Turbotax info shows that she qualifies so long as she was 16 in 2019, which she was. Help please !

Your child must be under 17 to qualify for the recovery rebate credit. She must file a 2020 income tax return to claim the credit even if she's not required to file.
Generally, if you were a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien in 2020, were not a dependent, have a Social Security number that is valid for employment, you are eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit. Your credit amount will be reduced if your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than:
A 17 year old who is a dependent is NOT eligible for the stimulus credit so filing a return will yield nothing and the parent will also not get it since the child was 17 in 2020 which is also the reason the parent did not get the $600 for the child.
Be 17 as of what date? When I use your calculator at https://turbotax.intuit.com/stimulus-check/
and enter "no- did not file 2018 return", (but if I had )"head of household", $1100 AGI, "no one claimed me as a dependent", would have claimed 1 dependent in 2018 (had I needed to file a tax return), and yes we have social security numbers. It calculates that I should have received $1200 this January, not the $600 I received.
