No. Your home business date does not affect your PA residency date or make you a part year resident. In the personal info section did you tell TurboTax that you lived in another state? This is where it would go to an automatic Part Year residency.
Where are you entering the business start date?
Yes, TurboTax has always asked in the 1099-R for your basis as that is part of the 1099-R and will be on some peoples form. What type of retirement is it? If it is a pension, did you select that you received monthly payments? If not, go back and change it. If so, and you are seeing this question just skip it.
There have been some changes in the TurboTax program and some people have different navigation than others. Basically, if you did not contribute to an after tax retirement plan like a Roth IRA, and this was just a pension or an employer sponsored 401k, then you would not need to enter the basis as you would not have a basis in it.
On your federal return in the Personal Info section, what did you enter for your state of residence? And did you shortly thereafter check the box that you lived in another state during the you (with an additional box opening to ask what state)?
This is where TurboTax got the idea that you were a part-year resident of PA.
If you think this is not accurate, please tell us what you told TurboTax in the first paragraph above.
i checked these -- all correct Hwever, i did enter the incorret date for when the home business started -- could that have been used for thr PA return? and for the first time since i started TT (5 yrs) i am being asked to enter the "basis" for each of my retirement payments -- is this new or another error I made
still no answer to my follow up
