I have the Desktop Home & Business program on Windows and  it lets me enter property tax.  Try updating your program.  Go up to Online-check for updates.

Thank you for the response. I should have specified that I am using the MAC version. I do have the latest updates.

Entered via Schedule A, but had to go the the TXS&INT worksheet to actually make the enrty.  This is a software error I hope they fix soon.

I am still having this problem in the Windows version, even after Turbotax updates were run.

We’re currently working to resolve this issue with entering property taxes paid. If you’d like to receive progress updates, please sign up at this tax help article.

In the meantime, you could opt to take the following steps as a workaround.

If you are using the desktop version, you can simply select forms mode, then go to to the Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet and enter the total of what you paid as well as the amount from form 1098 on line 9 of the worksheet.

If you are using the online version, then you can go back to the entries and remove the property taxes from the 1098.  Then go back to Your Home>>Property Taxes and enter the full amount (what you paid and what was paid through escrow on your 1098) all at once in the Property Tax category.

Entering it all together will not have any erroneous effect on your return, as it all ends up in the property tax line regardless of where you enter it.

Same thing happening for me as a MAC user.  Hope Intuit can get this glitch resolved.  Frustrating.

Well,  I updated my Turbo Tax that issue has been resolved.  However, further down the rabbit hole, the link to allow me to enter the amount I paid for personal property (e.g. auto excise tax) does not allow me to enter the amount.  Now, I do get a cute message saying it won't affect my deduction, but that I should be able to enter the information for my records and incase it will figure in my state or local tax return, but it does not allow me to do that.

Personal property taxes are part of the SALT tax deduction (state and local taxes), which is capped at $10,000. These are included as itemized deductions on Schedule A of your return. The limitation may be the reason for the message stating the entry will not affect your deduction.

Did you import a prior year return? If so, you may have some information pulling forward as supporting details that may be affecting your ability to make an entry. Please see the following thread with suggestions on how to resolve this issue:

I can take a look.

However, two points I'd like to make.  With respect to the personal property tax category, last year is last year and this year is this year.  Entering the data I have should not be a problem, that is, I should not be prevented from entering information for the current year.  If the information from successive years somehow relate to each other in the tax calculation, then the algorithm should handle that.   Second, if the SALT limit is hit before I get to the personal property tax category there is still no reason to prevent me from recording the data I have.  Again, the algorithm can ignore it if that's appropriate, but I should not be prevented from entering the information.

The problems I've encountered were not present in Turbo Tax 2023 and should not be present in Turbo Tax 2024.  But they are.  And INTUIT should have better quality control in place to prevent releases that contain bugs, and really needs to fix them more quickly.  Especially if they expect people to continue paying more and more for their software.
