Are you able to view the computation that the software made for the Child Tax Credit?
Report the total amount of Advance Child Tax Credit payments that were disbursed to you during 2021. You may have received a Letter 6419 from the IRS. You and your spouse may have each received your own letter with the total you each received.
The amount of Advance Child Tax Credit payments will be entered at the screen Tell us about any Advance Child Tax Credits.
If you can view the entire 2021 1040 Federal tax return at Tax Tools / Print Center, you will see:
The full amount of the Child Tax Credit is not reported on the 2021 1040 Federal tax return, only the net amount after applying the advance payments.
To view Federal 1040 line 28, go to Tax Tools / Tools / View Tax Summary / Preview my 1040.

@Kavitasingh30
This year the max age to claim this credit was removed. So you can be over 65!
Just enter $0 (zero) when TurboTax asks the amount of advance payments you received. Everyone has to answer those questions this year as you may have received advance payments even though you are not claiming any children on this year's return. Children need to be under 18 to qualify you for the Child Tax Credit. Child Tax Credit Info
The Earned Income Credit (EIC) is not the same as the Child Tax Credit on Form 8812. You can get the EIC without children. You must have children to claim the Child Tax Credit.
I have the same problem, do you know to correct it. Thank you.

Worked for me

Can you clarify what your issue is @chen susan - This is a really long thread and I don't want to assume any details....
At first I tired (0). That didn’t work. Than I tired (0.00). Wala, it is accepted.
Thanks you. That worked.
Thank you !! This finally worked to eliminate this persistent TTAX software bug.
This did not work for me.
@mk02 This is a long thread, At this point you know to enter 0.0 when asked. Can you clarify your situation and help needed?
I put zero on the schedule 8812 but it won't accept and keeps on asking me when I smart check. I don't have a dependent child.
"I put zero on the schedule 8812 but it won't accept"
Are you saying that you
If the software 'won't accept', are you able to move further through the software? What error messages are you receiving? Please clarify.
Everyone has to answer whether they received advance child tax credit payments.
Thanks for the hint about entering it as floating point vs integer. also .. got rid of the forms left over from years ago about our now adult children. Thumbs up that I can get this to work
Thank you, revisiting the deductions and credits section was the only way I could solve this error loop - Turbo Tax was about to be forever banished from my house. I would consider this a SERIOUS software bug that needs to be resolved to make this user friendly. It just kept leading me in circles, all of the posts about putting 0.00 in or deleting form 8812 didnt work. I have no dependents, no child care credits, and only after walking through that whole section did it finally resolve the endless loop of Hell the software was keeping me in.
I have used TurboTax for many years and have never experienced any kind of pain like that with it.
