the only reason i asked this question is because its easier for me to claim him on ours than file a tax return for him he didn't work and he lives with us at home he is just trying to get the stimulus check that he didn't get because he doesn't have a income this year like i said he does qualify for the dependent
he is 23 and lives with us he hasn't work this year and he is entitled to the check i just want to know if i claim him on our taxes as a dependent and he does quality as such which boxes do i check so we can receive the check i can file a return for him but why should i we supported him the whole year and i don't want to lose the stimulus check
on the tax from he is Q.R dependent so i can claim him which boxes should i check to make sure we get the check or will they do it automata i can file his own but its easier if i do it this way its only for this year that we would have to do this we took care and paid for him the whole year he lives at home and he is just unemployed he never worked cause of the pandemic started and we had just moved we live in NJ which stinks because you have to have photo i.d just to get a job and things have been closed for a year so he cant get id this is why im filing with him as a dependent thank you
@ravenclaw328 Wow----you have posted about this three times in some really long run on sentences that are confusing. But it sounds like you have a 23 year old son who lived with you and that you supported. If he had no income then you can claim him as your dependent and you will be able to get the $500 credit for other dependents for claiming him, and the third stimulus check of $1400 for claiming him. Dependents do not get stimulus checks so he will not get any of those checks himself, not the first, second or third one.
You cannot get the first or second stimulus amounts for claiming him on your 2020 return since you can only get the recovery rebate credit for a dependent who was UNDER the age of 17 at the end of 2020. The age limit changed for the third check so you can receive that--assuming you are otherwise eligible to receive stimulus checks. There is no place on a 2020 return to enter anything about that third check, so if you claim him it will come later after the IRS processes your 2020 return and sends you a "plus up" check.
TurboTax cannot track your 3rd stimulus or tell you when it will arrive. The IRS is issuing 3rd stimulus checks on its own timetable.
You can use the IRS Get My Payment site to see what is expected for your 3rd stimulus check:

Just enter your son as a dependent in My Info and answer the questions about whether he supported himself---he did not pay for over half his own support.
thank you so much i was asking but all who answered me was talking about grandson and other things that i didn't need to know about i thank you for your time in this matter you have answered the question to the point and now i can finish taxes have a great and safe year
Son is in his third year of college. We provide his rent, and more than half of his over all expenses. He works part time and grossed over $4500 in income. Question: can we still claim him as our dependent.
@DelmaL Yes, assuming he is a fulltime student. There are two types of dependents, "Qualifying Children"(QC) and Other ("Qualifying Relative" in IRS parlance even though they don't have to actually be related). There is no income limit for a QC*but there is an age limit, student status, a relationship test and residence test.
A child of a taxpayer can still be a “Qualifying Child” (QC) dependent, regardless of his/her income, if:
The $4300 income limit, you may have heard of, applies to Qualifying Relatives
