Can't select Itemized Deduction in TT 2019

I can't find a way to override Standard Deduction in TT2019.

Every post asked why would you want to do this.  I am very close to the standard deduction amount when itemizing.  Virginia uses your federal basis.  The Virginia itemized deduction has additional state items that in total result in a lower combined tax.

After resetting my preferences in the Tools Section to Itemized deductions as described in the earlier post, Turbo-tax 2019 continues to block me from manually entering the data - the data input boxes are not active and fixed at $0.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Continue your tax return.

Tax Tools is on the left side of the screen if you are using a real computer with a maximized screen.

I have experienced this problem when trying to enter property taxes.  TT 2019 will not allow entry.  CA return cannot find property tax to show as a deduction.  If I override the program and enter it manually on CA form the CA taxes are recalculated.

You can enter the property taxes in the Federal section TurboTax by following these directions. The property taxes will transfer to the state section.

In TurboTax Online:

  • While signed in and working in TurboTax
  • Click on Federal in the left-hand black menu
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down and click on Show More next to Your Home
  • Click on Start or Revisit next to Property Taxes

In TurboTax Desktop:

  • In the Federal (or Personal) section of TurboTax
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on Choose what I want to work on
  • Under Your Home, click on Start or Update next to Property Taxes
