What is your filing status?  You cannot get education credits if you file married filing separately or if you are someone else's dependent.  Double check the income amounts you entered.

Married filing jointly.

Our student is no one else's dependent and under $180,000?

Hum?

Make sure you claimed your child as a dependent.  Click edit by his/her name in My Info and go back through the screens.  Does he show up as a dependent on your Form 1040?

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

I'm not clear on who the student is, and who is claiming the student. But this occurs when you answer one of the questions asked by the program incorrectly, which is most likely your case if you are the parent of the student. Work back through the education section again. There is a screen that ask you if the ***STUDENT*** provided *MORE* than half of *THEIR* *OWN* support.

Most folks misread that question thinking it's asking if the parent provided more than half the student's support, and they *INCORRECTLY* answer the question YES, when it should be answered NO.

Understand that the support requirement is on the student, and *ONLY* the student. There is "NO REQUIREMENT" for the parents of that student to provide that student "ANY" support. Not one single penny.
