IRS letter 6475 confusion

Turbotax asks if $2800 matches the amount in Letter 6475.  It does match, so I answer YES.  Instantly Turbotax erases $2800 from our refund.  Huh?  Go back to try again and again.  A-ha.  I have to LIE and say NO, $2800 does NOT match the amount in Letter 6475.  Even though it DOES match.  Only if I say NO am I allowed to tell Turbotax we received 0 payment.

Helloo, Turbotax.  Just because Letter 6475 tells us we were issued a $2800 payment does not mean that we actually did get a payment!

IRS letter 6475 confusion

Did you get the 3rd Stimulus payment for 2,800 or not?

Better double check your bank statements or Check your IRS account (both accounts if married)

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

IRS letter 6475 confusion

The IRS does not have any information about any of my bank accounts.  The first stimulus they sent a check.  The second and third they sent the letter saying payment was "issued," but we got no card or check in the mail.  Checking the website only said something like you are entitled to the stimulus payment, we have no further information, check again later, until the website was finally shut down.

As far as whether the $2800 is already in "our IRS account," whatever that is, if there's some $2800 credit floating around somewhere, I want it in my hand, and the only way I know how to get it is to claim it on the 2021 return.  Which I am doing.

IRS letter 6475 confusion

Well letter 6475 is saying the IRS already sent it to you so will they probably take if off your return if you claim it.  You need to put a trace on it.   You need to look up your account at the IRS and it might say when they sent it to you.  Look up both spouses accounts.  There's probably a payment sent showing for your spouse too.

IRS letter 6475 confusion

We received two letters 6475 saying we were issued a $1,400 payment but neither of us has received payment.  I looked at my Online Account shows we have received $0.

Turbo Tax left Line 30 blank - is that correct?

IRS letter 6475 confusion

So did you enter the 2800 the letter 6475 said?  Then line 30 is right and blank.  But if the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

IRS letter 6475 confusion

The IRS Online account shows no payment for 2021.  It does show the $600 payment we each received EIP2 for 2020.  It does not look like the IRS thinks they paid us since their website does not show us.

I tried calling [phone number removed] earlier today and could not get anywhere because it seemed to refuse to understand that we did not receive payment if we received a letter 6475.  Could not get past the computer to a person no matter how hard I tried.

HOW DO I GET OUR THIRD STIMULUS PAYMENT OF 2800 DOLLARS

IRS letter 6475 confusion

Neither the letter nor the website claims anything was sent to us or deposited for us. Only that we were entitled to it, no other information was available, and check again later. I lied on Turbotax and said NO when it asked if the amount matched the letter. That is the only way I can think of to receive the credit.  I already sent in the return.  If it is wrong, then IRS can deny the tax refund and we'll be the only taxpayers in the U.S. who didn't get the third stimulus.

IRS letter 6475 confusion

My 6475 letter stated that our $2800 Impact Payment isn't considered taxable income and we should not report it.  Turbotax insisted that I report it and we now owe $2800 more.  What gives?

IRS letter 6475 confusion

It is not taxable and you aren't paying it back.  Your 2021 return starts out by assuming you didn't get any Stimulus payments so it gives you credit for the full amount and your refund was too high.  Then near the end you enter how much you actually got so it only gives you the difference if any.  So you don't get it again.

Look at your tax return.   It is not added as income anywhere or subtracted anywhere.  The Recovery rebate credit on line 30 is only if you didn't get the Stimulus payment or qualify for more.

Then if you try to claim it again on line 30 but the IRS already sent it to you they will take it off your return and reduce your refund or send you a bill.  Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.

Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

IRS letter 6475 confusion

You say: "The Recovery rebate credit on line 30 is only if you didn't get the Stimulus payment or qualify for more."  And that says it all, doesn't it.   Because we DIDN'T get them.  The only way I know of to get them is to put the amount due on line 30. The only way to do that is to LIE to Turbotax and say the amount on the letter is wrong.   The amount is RIGHT. The IRS is acknowledging in the letter we are entitled to it.  But the IRS does not claim in the letter or on the website that the amount was ever, on any date, either mailed to us or deposited in one of our accounts. Because it never was. How would they know what account to put it in anyway?  We never told them.

IRS letter 6475 confusion

@stphfplt Then just select NO when asked if you received the amount shown on the page for the 3rd stimulus payment.  Then enter 0 for the amount received and continue.

IRS letter 6475 confusion

Turbotax never asks if we actually received it. It asks if the amount in the letter matches what we were entitled to.  If you say yes, it matches, Turbotax automatically enters zero on the tax return and you don't get the opportunity to claim it.  Maybe they have corrected this flaw.
