I am in the process of filing my 2022 return.
TurboTax (Desktop) determined my son is my dependent. However, he was born on December 10, 1998; therefore, his 24th birthday was December 10, 2022, and he was not under 24 on December 31, 2022. He is not disabled, he did not pass away in 2022, and he is a full-time student, but TurboTax did not even ask for his student status.
To ensure no errors were carried over from my 2021 return, I deleted his dependent listing and reentered all of his data as follows:
And TurboTax reported…
Should I just delete him from the list of my dependents?
Thanks!

The important line in all of that is that he did not make more than $4400 in 2022. Even if he was 24, if his income was below $4400, and you provided over half his support, he could be claimed as a qualifying relative and you would get the $500 credit for other dependents for him.
Q. While I be able to deduct his educational and medical expenses like I did in 2021 when he was under 24?
A. Yes. Whether he qualifies as a dependent, under the Qualifying Relative or Qualifying Child rules, you still get both of those tax benefits.
Q. TurboTax did not even ask for his student status?
A. That's correct. Student status is not relevant, for claiming a dependent, after reaching age 24.

Really?
While I be able to deduct his educational and medical expenses like I did in 2021 when he was under 24?

Let's see if I understand this...
Is this correct?
Thanks!
