I am pretty sure TurboTax (Desktop) incorrectly determined my son's dependent status. What do I do?
I am in the process of filing my 2022 return.
TurboTax (Desktop) determined my son is my dependent. However, he was born on December 10, 1998; therefore, his 24th birthday was December 10, 2022, and he was not under 24 on December 31, 2022. He is not disabled, he did not pass away in 2022, and he is a full-time student, but TurboTax did not even ask for his student status.
To ensure no errors were carried over from my 2021 return, I deleted his dependent listing and reentered all of his data as follows:
- Birth Date: 12/10/1998.
- Citizen Status: US citizen or legal resident.
- This child is my son.
- He lived with me for the whole year.
- We live the whole year in the US.
- He was not disabled.
- He did not pass away in 2022.
- He was not married as of December 31, 2022.
- He did not make $4,400 or more in 2022.
- Yes, I paid for more than half of his support in 2022.
And TurboTax reported…
- Good news he qualify you for a tax break.
- And he then lists him as a dependent on the following page.
Should I just delete him from the list of my dependents?
Thanks!
