If you don't have a mortgage, just continue through without entering anything. You don't need to go back and report how you purchased the house.
I thought they wanted a loan that I took out so I put the company name in the loan was for other things it won't let me go back because I pay house taxes, which I had to enter but I owe my home.
It depends. You should have an amortization schedule if you are purchasing from an individual making payments. The interest would still be considered mortgage interest. However, if you paid for the house outright then you have no mortgage interest to use.
Use the link below to go back to the mortgage interest screens in TurboTax.
Please update here is you have more questions and we will help.
I thought I had to put in a loan I got but I own my home and the loan was not to buy my home. But because I pay property taxes it won't let me move forward? Thank You 😊
Yes
I would advise you to remove the property taxes and then go back to remove the mortgage interest. Once the mortgage interest is removed, then take the following steps if you are using TurboTax Online before you add back the property taxes.
In this situation, first please try clearing the cookies and cache. It handles many issues that seem nonsensical on a regular basis with online activity.
Watch to be sure you are selecting 'all time' as example. Do not use selections like 'last hour' for those browsers that give you options.
Once this is complete open your return and try again.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, save your return, then at the top select Online, then Check for updates.
Thank You, I did that and now they rejected my taxes. I appreciate you answer and time.
What TurboTax program are you using?
Online or Desktop?
I suggest you return to
Deductions & Credits
Your Home
Mortgage Interest, Points, Refinancing, and Insurance
Select "Yes' on the first screen asking "Did you pay any home loans in 2024?'
On the next screen if the lender is listed, delete it
if the screen is asking "Who's your mortgage lender?' leave that blank and click continue
the screen may then insist in the name of the lender, select Back and Select Back again
Now, again select "Mortgage Interest, Points, Refinancing, and Insurance"
the next screen should show "Home loan deduction summary" screen
make sure that list is empty
Look in that section for any entries that should not be there
