Error on starting Turbo tax

Hi,

My 2024Turbo tax premier bought online does not open the application for me anymore (last was mar18, 2025). It says some error occurred. It worked fine when i opened the last time. I restarted the machine but to no result. What can I do? This is unexpected as my return was ready to be filed.

Try clearing your cache and deleting your cookies. Review the TurboTax Help article How to clear your cache and How do I delete cookies? for specific instructions for your browser. Also, reboot your computer.

It is not browser based. I downloaded the application on my machine so it has a shortcut to start. I did reboot my machine.

I figured out. It is the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable issue after the update. I repaired one of the versions and it works now.

I am glad you were able to get your program working using the Microsoft Visual C and C++.

I called turbotax for help and the person was less than helpful.  "Tammy" kept forgetting that I didn't actually have the program open...

Okay I figured it out thanks to different posts.  I had go to my computer, programs, and uninstall the latest version of C++ Redistributable.

Then, I had to go to the microsoft website and in my case download version:  VC_redist.x64.exe  (Version 14.42.34433)  but make sure you download the correct version for your machine.

Then it worked.  

The person who I was on the phone with (Tammy) would never have figured this out.

This didn't work for me - still can't open 2024 return.  Anyone else have a solution?

@CarolC2   Can't you start the program or just not open your tax return?  If you can't open your tax return is there an error message or code like 190 or 119 or 603?

What did not work, @CarolC2?   Do you have the 2024 software installed?

I couldn't open the return.  But finally tried the draft (with a tilde in front) and that worked.  HOWEVER, I still have to redo the whole **bleep** return because I had to make a change to my 2023 return and it won't allow me to re-transfer that return without starting all over again.

What did you need to change on your 2023 return?  Maybe it doesn't affect 2024 or is something you can easily fix in 2024 without starting over?    Did you transfer from the wrong 2023 file?

It's too complicated to explain, but trust me, I need to redo the 2024 return if I can't reimport the 2023 return

Sorry  you can only Transfer from 2023 into a brand new blank return.  Go up to File - New Tax Return.   And better save  your existing 2024 return with a different name to tell them apart or just delete it.
