The problem will still remain. The return may be accepted by another efile provider or a physical return can be mailed, but the 1095-A sent from an ACA exchange in error is still with the IRS. Yes, your return will almost certainly be accepted, but this method works using TurboTax and closed the loop so to speak.
In my case I haven't had an ACA Exchange health plan for nearly 2 years, but I was still in their system and most exchanges have accounts set to auto-renewal. That doesn't mean you have a plan but you may have a zombie account that can mistakenly send documents like a 1095-A to the IRS causing this problem. If this happened to you I suggest calling the exchange in your state and confirming you don't have an exchange plan and that your account is not on auto-renewal. I did that this morning. I didn't have a plan but my account was set to auto-renewal even after 2 years. (I live in California.)
Anyone have a solution? I have been rejected 4 times. One more time, I can't file with Turbo Tax. Please advise!
If you do not have a Form 1095-A because you don't have Market Place insurance try the steps below which has been successful.
The IRS is rejecting returns with this code because they believe you or someone on your return had insurance through the marketplace.
You can try to enter $1 for the 1095. This will not affect anything on your return, but having the form there may get the IRS to accept your return. To do this take the following steps:
So, what happens the following year when you file? Will we have to continue to say YES for 1095A?
You only need to say YES to Form 1095-A if you had Marketplace insurance for any day of the tax year. Starting this year, if the IRS believes you or someone on your tax return has a 1095-A (had marketplace insurance at some point during the year), they will not accept a tax return without the form. In prior years, you could e-file without entering the 1095-A, but your return would be delayed while they have you amend or send in the 1095-A and Form 8962.
What's my state Marketplace? If you or anyone on your return had health insurance through any provider listed in that link, you must enter your 1095-A(s) or your return will be rejected.
If you had an issue with being rejected this year despite not having a Form 1095-A on file, I suggest you call either your state marketplace or healthcare.gov and correct the issue in their database before Forms 1095-A are issued next year. The contact numbers for every state marketplace and healthcare.gov are in that link.
Yes but if we do that will it hold up my refund. Has anyone tried this? Did you still get your refund?
Yes, but Will this delay my refund?
It depends what is happening with your situation. If you had insurance through the marketplace and do not enter your 1095-A, then your return will be rejected so you would have to enter it and then resubmit.
If you enter something wrong, the IRS may adjust your return and send you a letter. If it doesn't change your refund amount, then you will still get your refund. The IRS simply adjusts it to the amount they believe you should have based on the information they have. So, if you have a 1095A, and enter the wrong numbers on it, the IRS would adjust it to the correct numbers and adjust your refund accordingly and send you that amount.
Yes, if you enter the wrong info and the IRS has to adjust your return it will delay your refund.
If your return is rejected, then it would delay it until you correct and resubmit your return.
