The numbers come from you. You would generally go by which state you lived in when you paid the expense.  for example, if mortgage interest was paid every month and you moved in July, you could allocate half to each state.  If you have questions about specific expenses or income, please add more detailed info in the comments.

I am not sure what a “federal adjustment to income” even is so I am not sure what or where I input something to earn that adjustment to income. How would I figure out where they got that number so I can decided what state it was for?

The number should be your federal itemized deductions.  You may have to pay and print your return to look at the Schedule A to see what adjustments show there.  It's the amounts that were used to reduce your federal taxable income.  It could also be deductions you took for other things that reduce your federal income even if you did not itemize. That could be things on lines 23-36 of your 1040.  I'll post here instructions on how to view just your 1040 without paying, and instructions on how to contact us by phone if you need more help than we can give you here, since we can't see your return and they can.

So if I lived in CO all year bit do 1099 work in Kansas so I add my owner 401k and private health care costs to the federal adjustments on the Kansas side? Since those payments are sources from my Kansas income even tho I live in Colorado
